Showing my age once again I don't think you could beat this for a back four :

Brian Makepeace
Syd Bycroft
John Nicholson
Len Graham

Another four I would not mind seeing play together:

Billy Russell  ( not mentioned yet)
Charlie Williams
Rob Jones
Jack Hodgson  ( he taught my other left back Lennie Graham).

Steve Nicholl was class but must have a head the shape of a 50 pence piece, the ball could go anywhere

For me it would be

JOC/MARPLES JONES/LEE/SHACKELL/MILLS SPURR/RYAN

Tough one to call, the more i think the more players i want to put in.
I would have to play a 8-2-0

....Untill we do midfielders anyway  :woot:

I'm amazed I'm the only one to name Steve Read. I once saw him away from home against Shrewsbury score a goal from a free kick break the net.

One player I'm glad never pulled on the shirt for us is Cliff Byrne. Watching Oldham v Liverpool now and he is still one of the worst defenders I've ever seen. How he's managed to play at a somewhat decent level for so long is beyond me.
