Players to be put in the bin ?
« on July 14, 2017, 09:26:46 pm by Susan Abbott »
The Football Association has confirmed 32 grassroots leagues in England will trial sin-bins in the 2017-18 season.

The "temporary dismissals" will apply to selected divisions in England's 'step seven' - six tiers below the National League - and leagues below.

Players will now spend 10 minutes out of the game if they are shown a yellow card for dissent.

Men's, women's, adult, youth, Saturday and Sunday leagues have all been picked for the pilot scheme.

The FA said 130 leagues registered interest in the trial and a mixture of leagues across the country were chosen.

Clubs are normally charged a £10 fine for each yellow card but the FA will not be charging this administration fee for those that participate.

Step seven is the bottom level of English football's National League System, which feeds into the country's professional leagues.

The highest league within that structure - step one - is the National League.

Selected leagues

Anglian Combination League
Army Football League Massey
Birmingham & District Football League
Bolton, Bury & District Football League
Chester & Wirral Football League

Stupid idea..... if your going to gob off at the referee then you should know you risk getting a yellow card. By having a sin bin then it reduces the punishment.

How does it reduce the punishment when it seems to read that they will get the sin bin AND the yellow card?

My issue with this is I think it needs to go hand in hand with a clock-stop mechanism...otherwise the team who are a man down will be encouraged to time waste more while they run the clock down to get their man back on the pitch.

Players will soon shut up when they start missing ten minutes of the game. I think it is a great idea and should have been brought in years ago.

How many refs will accept a "bit of banter" and how many will become power mad? How many can be sin binned at the same time? Is the game called off if a team is down to 7? men? I can see there being problems with this one as no 2 refs are the same unless of course they ref Rovers when most are usually rubbish according to Rate the Ref

Are they going to punish players twice? Sin-bin for 10 minutes and a yellow card, 5 yellow cards and a match ban. So you could in theory get 50 minutes in the sin-bin and a match ban.

If players don't learn from their first 10 minutes, I do suppose it's their own fault for getting a match ban as well if they keep gobbing off!

It's a great idea for the F.A. to copy Rugby League's 40 years old sin bin rule. It's a clear sign of progressive thinking.

Perhaps another common sense idea - having an official timer, might also be copied while they're at it.

Personally, I 'd also have multi-subs too.

Yes, by virtue of a 10 minute sin bin, they're bringing the clock in to play. Is it elapsed time or game time and who monitors it?

The refs got enough to do, so let's get away from the mystery of 'time' and not by short changing us by reducing the match to 60 mins!

Sometimes they do but it's not as common as further up.

But I meant it could give them something to do if it was extended to the professional game

If a sin-bin offence also carries a yellow card, wouldn't it be a sending off for two yellow cards as it is now?

Not if it is in different games it isn't
