Brown on the bench again!
And no Clingan.............injured?
-
Line up: Woods, Quinn, Spurr, McCombe, Jones, Keegan, Harper, Bennett, Cotterill, Paynter, Hume.
Bench: Maxted, Husband, Griffin, Martis, Syers, Brown, Blake.
Expected more changes after Coventry debacle, although this is the sort of line-up that has worked away from home so far. No sign of Clingan- my guess is that he won't sign just to be a benchwarmer and is probably off somewhere else.
-
You'd hope after 2 weeks off the side is fighting fit and raring to go, no excuses about illness/injuries today! Need a performance, here's hoping that side can get it. Shame about Clingan, I'd agree with TRB that he seems to be hesitant to sign a new deal so we're not playing him. Shame as he'd be in over Keegan 11 times out of 10 for me.
-
Husband the only player dropped? REALLY?!?
-
How Quinn keeps getting a game baffles me.
-
Very disappointed with that line-up. Can't see any positives in Spurr going to full-back at the expense of Husband to make way for McCombe.
No pace at the back, same old lack of creativity in midfield, with the exception of the unpredictable schoolboy on the left.
Wish I could be more enthusiastic about it but I fear another backs to the wall performance.
-
Absolutely bucketing down! Good turnout mind, greedy Donny buggers have already bought all the yummy cottage pies they sell here.
-
Goallllll!!!!Rob Jones!!!!!
-
Yeeeessss!!! ... Rob Jones
:woohoo: :woohoo: :woohoo:
:scarf: :scarf: :scarf: :scarf: :scarf: :scarf:

Easy, easy easy! :scarf:
-
gooooooooooooooooaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaalllllllllllll
-
Pitch conditions sound terrible.

Forgot to mention our threat from set-pieces of course !!
-
He's Rob Jones - Jones! Always believe in your souuuuullllll!
Get in! Let's hope we can hold this one unlike last time we took an early lead at Oldham!
-
Just lucky again then eh Baz?

One big positive I've just noticed - Syers is back on the bench. If we're lacking energy in the middle he could be just what we need.
-
According to the BBC Rovers haven't had a shot on target yet. Amazing how we are managing to win! :)
-
Donny dog is totally bossing their Wednesday-reject owl!
-
Cotterill backing out of 50:50s again - injured?
-
1:1 we've been asking for it.
-
b*llocks. Sounds like a wonder goal. Got it all to do again, let's not collapse Rovers!
-
Thats the most enthusiastic commentary for an opposition goal I've heard
-
let's not collapse Rovers!
We already have !
-
Repeat story?
-
Liam Hoden from Free Press: That man M'Changama fires an effort from 25 yards, seemed to go through Gary Woods' hands #oafc 1 #drfc 1
-
It was a good goal but we let them score it! We're giving them far too much space
-
Just wondered is it the same midfield problem.
-
Still no cover from the midfield, is Keegan on the field?
-
Free Press also saying that all action is coming down their right wing. Can't imagine Bennett is providing much protection for Spurr. If this continues then you have to put Husband on I reckon. Bennett far too lightweight for a game like this.
-
2 of Their players have had a good six minutes laid out on the pitch this half.
-
Just wondered is it the same midfield problem.
Barely heard any of our midfielders mentioned yet. If the roumour of a Wellens return has any truth in it, it can't happen soon enough.
-
Well it sounds like they keep coming in waves, but are struggling to create genuine chances as usual. I'm not panicking just yet. They happened to score a good individual goal which it sounds like Woods fumbled, so it sounds like business as usual! Here's hoping we can bring on Brown and Syers to give us more options in midfield and up front! I'm really going off Keegan as of late, cannot see what he's been doing to deserve a start every game.
-
Both Keegan and Harper have advantages but they should never under any circumstances be played in the same team together. Clingan should always start alongside one of them.
-
May be a way to go yet but signs not good. Nothing to change concerns that:-
Quinn - Not up to it
McCombe - Dodgy
Spurr - better at centre half
Harper - Invisible
Keegan - visible mainly for the wrong reasons
Paynter - also invisible
Bennett - Lost in a sea of green.
-
I'll always say about Keegan his heart's in the right place so he does well against a team full of scrappers and cloggers. If you put him against a team with any kind of footballing ability whatsoever he gets shown up every time though.
-
At least Bennet has been trying to get forward, but there is no tackling midfielder who can also pass a ball, it leaves us open for quick attacks without any control from midfield.
-
Copps isn't going to be sprinting back 30 yards to get a tackle in but thank god we will finally have someone who can put their foot on the ball and pass to someone in red and white.
-
Only4 mins e.t. . Even 4th official is fed up watching it!
-
According to the BBC Rovers haven't had a shot on target yet. Amazing how we are managing to win! :)
PA stats as accurate as ever. Apparently we had minus 25% of the possession between the 37th and 44th minutes.
-
Yeah, it really sounds like our usual gameplan is struggling simply because the centre of midfield is so plodding we can't get forward properly and invite too much pressure. Harper and/or Keegan should not be playing together if we have any other option.
-
Like to see at least a double substitution at the break.
Syers for Harper...get some legs on.
Husband for McCombe...lower centre of gravity on a wet pitch and more likely to cause them problems going forward.
-

That shows how much we have been giving the ball away!

I know he's been crucified plenty but it's getting ridiculous now.
I'll reserve judgment but hope it's not another case of a shot on target where we may as well have started with 11 outfield players.
-
BBC stats - 58% Oldham possession vs 42% and 9 Oldham shots vs 1 for us.

Radio Sheffield also gave it the "Woods will think he could have done a lot better" etc.
-
Half time biscuit time, who needs Paul! ;)

Bennett had a cracking on-target shot at about 20 minutes.
-
Hopefully Dean will have at least a keeper and a midfielder on his January wishlist. Priority for me over any more strikers.
-
I've heard it all know. Commentator says
"Good news. Ian Hulme has signed permanently on loan to the end of the season. Will miss the game v Preston."
Say What.

Even the permanently on loan till the end of the season bit?
-
"Destintion out of order" after silence. When are the club either going to buy decent equipment or decent users of technology?!!!!
-
Someone kicked the cable out by accident.
-
Just had to nip out for a min. Any 2nd half changes ?
-
About ten minutes of creativity, keep it up, come on rovers!
Billy paynter struggling to get a foothold, slipping about a bit.
-
No.
Good to hear Rovers fans doing their best to lift the team. A change or two can't be too far away.
-
Where's Robbie Blake appeared from.
-
Keegan off / syers on.
-
Thankfully Keegan is off, should never have started, can't cope with any pace at all.
-
Where's Robbie Blake appeared from.
I was wondering that unless he sneaked on while RP was offline

My bad, too much rum yesterday!
-
Come on... let's see if we can nick this
-
Rovers come into it now we've got Syers on.
-
We've just been robbed of a goal over the line, and foul in the box. Bent ref!
-
2 golden chances. Claims for a goal and claims for a penno.
-
Syers making a difference, a midfielder at last.
-
Shock horror, we put a bit of energy in the middle of the park and all of a sudden things improve! Syers has to start over Keegan/Harper now he's fit. Preferably drop Keegan as Harper has a bit more technical ability, which Syers still lacks.
Bugger, to say we're supposedly only near the top on luck (we're not, by the way), we're not having much of it today are we?
-
Last time we played Oldham the game changed with Syers introduction. We can't keep playing with Keegan and Harper together. The midfield needs Woods or Syers in there... or Wellens.
-

Ball was won, wasn't a penalty.
-
Bet he's there again on sat.
-
Hume booked for dissent, we can't afford that sort of booking with a small squad, fined a weeks wages? Should be.
-
Come on Deano. Don't wait for the inevitable, make another positive change to take it to them.
-
Paynter off / brown on.
-
We've not won since November. :(
-
Hume booked for dissent, we can't afford that sort of booking with a small squad, fined a weeks wages? Should be.
That is his 5th booking of season so gets it out the way in a game he couldn't play in
-

Agreed, how basic is it to not get stupid yellows. Wages go to Rovers Youth. Just when he's got a new contract too.
-
Bennett off / husband on

Very clever if deliberate and true (not sure of exact wording of laws on suspensions and if it is subtle enough to cover this sort of situation)
Edit: No it is simply stupid. I think after 1 January 10 yellows are needed for a suspension, i.e. no suspension for 5 yellows. So there was nothing to be gained.
-
Apparently in the first 35 mins of the second half, we've had 77% of the possession according to the PA.
It's just like watching Barca...
-
Dutch. It'll be deliberate. Players have been doing it for years. I remember Paul Barnes doing it in this very week of the 02/03 promotion season. Last few minutes against Leigh, he chased half the length of the field to give the ref an earful. Picked up his 5th yellow card and missed the FA trophy match a week later.
I'm amazed that the authorities don't clamp down on this.
-
YEEEESSSSSSSSSSSSSSSS
F****g Brilliant !!!!

yesssssssssssssssssssssss
-
We scoreeeeeed...but what the hell happened !!!
-
Syers Gett innnn!!!!
-
Yes!!!!!!!!!! Super Rovers, super Syers!
-
Ssssshhhhhh. Not over yet !!!
-
:D
-
Syers, you beauty! We all said he needed to come on but full credit to Deano for making the change which again looks like it's made the difference!
-
You have to admire the tenacity of this side
-
Another one we got away with.
I like the team we finished with !!!
-
Full time! Syers simply has to start if fit on Saturday. Another solid performance it sounds like, see how much difference having an attacking-minded player in the middle makes.
In other news, Swindon didn't play and MK Dons got tonked by Walsall!
-
I don't want this result to paper over the cracks but it's not a fluke how we keep doing this, it can't be.

Just edited my previous post to say that Hume has simply been stupid.
I believe from 1 January that 10 yellows are needed for a suspension, so there was nothing to be gained, and he is simply 1 yellow nearer the 10. Also should Saturday's game be postponed presumably he would miss the Blades match.
Anyway who cares - Brilliant result :scarf: :scarf: :scarf: :scarf:
-
Point of information - the card Hume picked up today was his 4th yellow of the season, not his 5th. So he would not be banned for the Preston game. I think the confusion stems from the fact that in the Oldham home game he was dismissed for two yellows. In such cases, the first yellow is wiped out.
Leading yellow cards after today's game as follows:
Keegan 8
Jones 6
Cotterill 5
Quinn 4
Hume 4
Brown 3
Syers 3
Bennett 3
So only Quinn is in danger of a ban for five yellows should he pick up on on Saturday. However, if any accumulate 10 before some time in April they will cop a two game ban.
Hume does seem to pick up some silly and needless bookings (ditto Cotterill) and DS should have a word about it.

"Signed permanently on loan"- classic. LMFAO!

No it is not a fluke. We are far from the finished article and could have some better entertainment, with creative midfielders playing positively. We are grinding out results and accumulating points with hard work, especially away from home. And Woods is not as bad as folks make out, we're high in the table with 43 points halfway through the season, with Woods as 'keeper in every game. He can't be that bad, can he?
