Title: Coppinger's 300th appearance?
Post by: The Red Baron on January 08, 2013, 07:29:28 pm
Am I missing something here? DROS says James Coppinger is due to make his 300th League appearance for us on Saturday. I have him on 302 now and by my reckoning his 300th was when he came on as a sub in the Crawley game in August- his final League appearance before going to Forest.

I have his total number of first team games at 343, which puts him at 8th on the all-time appearance list- just behind Glynn Snodin (345) and Syd Bycroft (358).

EDIT: Just checked against the Sky Sports Yearbook and found the discrepancy. They don't count the Play-offs (2007-08) as League appearances, something I find illogical. So if you only count the "regular season" (to coin an Americanism) then he is on 299 now and DROS is correct. However, I find it hard to consider the play-offs as "Cup" or "Other" games!

I'd gather the reasoning behind this is it isn't directly a league game i.e. no points on the board (obviously) and in the case of being seen as a cup match, technically you do compete for a trophy. All I can think of.

"Just checked against the Sky Sports Yearbook..."

Does that make Copps the record holder......surely that in return for Skys shedloads FA & FL have deleted everything pre - 1991 ?  :)

If you say scored 35 league goals in a 46 game season and were then overtaken by someone scoring in three play off matches you would be miffed.
The second guy has had a 49 game season.
After the play offs you don't see a revised table, just the results. :scarf:
