My mates wife used to play football with Butch when they were kids. Its quite a shock really.

   I was only listening to him on talksport last week,he was discussing the world cup and how much he was looking forward to it...Such a shame..

Very sad to here of the most iconic English players of his generation has died , he was the David Beckham of his age group Rip   Ray ( Butch) Wilkins

Very sad news. RIP. He was a very gifted young footballer in his early days at Chelsea and sometimes we forget how skilful he was.

Got to admit I was surprised nobody commented when I posted he was gravely ill - thought he was held in higher esteem
Pilloried by the press for passing sideways but as stated above, very skilful

England v Yugoslavia 1986.  Wilkins comes on as a substitute in the 2nd half replacing Steve Hodge, to a crescendo of boos from the England supporters. His first touch... a headed goal line clearance that saved an almost certain Yugoslav goal.

He was presenting on talksport on Wednesday, the morning of his heart attack.
