Incident near train station
« on September 19, 2012, 10:31:02 am by Norfolk N Chance »
Sadly have to report some nasty scenes walking to train station.

Handful kicking off which caused me and my mate to run for cover...

Put them in the f**king army if they want to be a hero, this has no place in football!

That header. Sounds like material for Sheffield's finest purveyor of light entertainment and practical lifestyle advice.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9Ufc8bnD8DE

Walking back down
Shoreham Street on my way into town
I had just been
To Bramall Lane to cheer on my team

Suddenly there
We're a bunch of dee dahs giving it the hard state
Bacon-shirted
Punched me in the face an it really hurted.

Etc, etc

Doesn't surprise me. First time I've ever encountered any hostility at an away game last night. Coming away from the game and having to head against the wave of home fans to get down the side of the stadium and on the way to the train station, some teenage clever dick decided it'd be funny to slam me to the floor with a shoulder tackle reminiscent of the NFL. Good job I only got the skin ripped off my arm and elbow rather than banging my head on the concrete wall or floor, ey.

Obviously sorry to hear that and in case they dont go up ....

.... there is no need to go down the side of the Ground. Come out of away end and turn to your right (down Bramall Lane) . Follow that road until you see eveyone go down underpass and follow them all. Come up on the other side and keeping DECATHLON shop to your left (Sylvester Street) go straight ahead (Road becomes Sydney Street)

Eventually you pass what was the Pop Music Meseum (now Hallam Hall of residence) and then arrive at the Station

Will note this down for future reference if we do play them again sometime soon, cheers. How long does this route take approximately do you know?

It took me 15 minutes each way. I was back at Station at 21.52 anyway having had to get out of course

PS You take Sylvester Street past Decathlon and Sydney Street after that but one ends and the other starts so you cant go wrong.

Kicked off at station, after we'd played west ham away they'd been London too.
20 man brawl in the subway from the platforms to the station.

Ironic given the City it is taking place in.

Hillsborough was a disaster waiting to happen and all those who caused trouble at Football Grounds from the mid to late 60s until that date were responsible for the erection of fences

The fences of course directly played a part in the crushing of fans at the Leppings Lane End

Whilst the trouble around football now seems to be a minority thing or I am too old to be a target it is a real shame that it is there at all. It was great at Colchester Saturday seeing all the shirts "mixed" together talking about the game and great to see away fans openly wearing colours in away Towns and Cities whereas you would not have dares to do such thing in the times I mentioned

Lets hope the mindless behaviour continues to disappear - it should have no place in or around our Grounds

The police are keen on herding opposing fans on & off designated coaches, but when it comes to deploying one or two of their finest along routes that would be obvious choices for away supporters to take as they headed home, there appears to be an indifference to isolated cases of 'threatening, intimidating' incidents against individuals. I don't believe for a minute that they aren't aware of such possible 'ambush' areas, they just choose not to 'police' them.

Been discussing it with the Wednesday and Barnsley lads in the office today. They're saying its what Sheff Utd do, try and pick people off walking to the station. One of the Barnsley kids just shown me a clip of 500 of them on youtube being escorted through Sheffield past Decathlon, and another of them all outside Howard pub surrounded by the police not a single Blade around. The Weds lads say that even for the Derby games they were letting both sets of fans out onto Bramall Lane at the same time. Bit of a cowardly attack by their supporters but nothing really surprises me with them.

Suppose they were a bit upset by the result though, is that 6 games undefeated against them now? ;)

I have to say that recently I've taken to going "incognito" (i.e. not wearing my Rovers shirt) when going to away games. In most cases this is less to do with avoiding trouble and more to do with being able to get a drink where I want (rather than paying for the overpriced piss served in most grounds.)

As a result I was able to have a drink in the Railway (right next to the ground) on Tuesday night and also had the benefit of being able to walk back to my car after the match without getting any grief from the home fans.

Have to say the beer in the Railway wasn't up to much, but it was amusing to listen to a couple of Blunts bemoaning the fact that "we always struggle against teams like these." A very accurate prediction of the evening's fare as it turned out.

I've been to plenty of away games but the only time I ever had any trouble was at teh Shef U friendly last year. Me and a mate (who is a shef u fan) went to the game in the donny end, just walking towards the train station just the two of us n suddenly outta nowhere these bottles were thrown and a large gang of lads running towards us. We just high tailed it outta there. Just find it amusing that if they woulda got to us they woulda been beating up one of their own fans. Been to all the yorkshire clubs n never had anything like it. Even went to Preston me n two mates and walked in to Preston center with our tops on and ended up staying out for a few hours drinking with their fans who were all keen to talk to us, even after we had won 2-0

there were a fair amount on the way to and out of the underpasses that we went along with most of our fans, especially near the places that the little toss pots like to lurk..

I wouldn't even use the underpass near Bramall Lane.

I wouldn't if I hadn't been in the middle of a big group of our own. Scary stuff.

I used the underpasses straight after the match and saw no police whatsoever once I was away from the immediate vicinity of the stadium

they were there around 10 minutes after the majority left, must have come along a little later then cos I definitely saw some round that area and most certainly along the road I took back to the station
