Wasn't he at Coventry? Yes just checked and free agent, released by them at end of last season. Only 28 as well, I thought he was older has been around for years.

It was reported he did not like SOD but I suppose he see's more in DS. Good player on his day.

We certainly need a bit more guile in midfield. The ability to hold on to the ball for more than 10 seconds wouldn't go amiss. Clingan might bring that.

Would be a brilliant signing exactly what we're missing.

Please let this happen. We're crying out for a player like him. Got a feeling some defensive cover will be the priority after today though.

I remember us being interested in him a few years ago, think he went to Forest instead though. Could be just what we need, steady the ship in midfield and allow us a bit more creativity going forward.

Mindst you Saunders did say on Dee Daah that he'd had several players training with us, when asked to name names he said he didn't know their names but to ask his assisitant because he knew who they were! I hope to whatever that he was taking the p**s

I think he was being facetious. We don't want their names getting out there because we might lose out on them.

Could do a job for us but can I forgive him for drop kicking Sean McDaid in the
chest at theirs, which resulted in the end of McDaids Rovers career.
Later in the same game gaz Rberts took the ball down the side line and when Clingan ran up behind to slash him Gaz merely went into reverse causing untold physical discomfort on the 'Clingon' and also getting a free kick out of it!!!

This would be a great signing. Only worry would be his fitness has he's been without a club since the end of last season.

McDaid's DRFC career was ended by a pub-team player from Accrington Stanley in the JPT when they collectively kicked us off the park at BV.

According to the Wikipedia he takes a decent free-kick as well, that could come in handy.

I am sure a Cov fan told me they released him due to his wages...

Would be an excellent addition.

Cov are in a much worse financial state than us though. Also, we know there are funds available, maybe Deano's decided we just need to use them now. We are hardly penniless, we're just being careful.

Spot on MM.

When Copps was leaving the name in the frame to replace him was Sammy Clingan, DS made the decision to hold back and take his time to fill whatever gaps became obvious. Its his choice to do this the way he feels happy with, but the funds are available.

If we are close to signing him,He will have reduced his demands, just like Yeovil being able to afford Hayter,Spireshites affording Hird etc.The players/agents rarely take a pay cut to extend/renew a contract to stay at a club, even though they then often DO SO when they move to another equivalent or lower.

Not true. The injury he suffered in the Accrington game was in December 2006 and although he was out for two months he was able to return to play in the Johnstone's Paint Trophy. In April 2008 he suffered a dislocated knee in a behind-closed-doors practice match and was out of action for over 18 months. Even then he returned briefly to the Rovers squad and moved on to Carlisle in the summer of 2010. It was with Carlisle that he suffered a new and ultimately career-ending knee injury that was unconnected to the one he'd received at Rovers.
