Ryan Mason
« on January 22, 2017, 09:56:29 pm by chrisd_123 »
Took a nasty whack to the head in Hull's game with Chelsea today and received a lot of treatment.

Reports suggesting he's fighting for his life after fracturing his skull and bleeding on the brain.

Hope he has a speedy recovery. Thoughts definitely with his family and friends!

Edit: Reports aren't exactly giving any source of truth in the 'fighting for his life' line but still, looks a nasty injury!

I really hope it's not as bad as "fighting for his life". For goodness sake, the lads just playing a game of bloody football, and it should never come to this.
I'm sure I can say on behalf of all Rovers supporters, we wish him all the best for a full recovery.

I totally agree in this sentiment. A bag of wind can cause much suffering because of it..

His football carreer is probably over, buts thats the least of his problems right now, the speed at which this injury is treated is critical to the type of recovery he will make

Hull have put out a statement. He's undergone surgery and he's now in a stable condition.

Hull have confirmed he's fractured his skull and is in a stable condition.

Positive news after the earlier sensationalism from the press!

His career is probably over though. Hope he recovers quickly!

Very relieved to read that he's in a stable condition after surgery. Shame on the press for stirring up such a story for hits on their websites.

I did hope the initial headline had been exaggerated.

Hope he makes a full recovery.

No reason to suspect his career is over. Players do get fractured skulls and generally get on with it once healed up. Get well soon, Ryan.

Although I suggested his carreer maybe over, did n't Iain Hume recover from a similar injury after that t**t Morgan nobbled him?

Crippy _ I agree But sensational headlines like this sell newspapers... The Press especially will utilise any bad news and disaster to make their 20p

"Stable" is a very broad term. It just means not getting worse. That could still mean he is in an extremely serious condition. Hope he pulls through without any long term damage.

I'm keeping my fingers crossed and take solace with the stable report..I had a big operation once and some of my friends rang up the hospital to check on me and was told I was stable...I was sat up in bed reading my book and having a cuppa at the time...But Gaz is right it covers a wide spectrum so hoping for the best scenario...As for his career if it was a fractured skull he has a chance of resuming his career...If it was a fractured sull and bleed on the brain I fear his career is over..Nobody would insure him for starters and weve seen with Blackwell how that can end up if you carry on...

There is the term "critical but stable" which is often used when the patient's condition is very serious.

I suspect he may have been placed into a medically induced coma, as is often the case where brain injury is involved or suspected. The surgery will probably have been to ensure that the fracture site is not causing pressure on the brain and to repair some of the damage. The rest will be down to the healing process.

Hume was a hard bas**rd though.

Hopefully he comes out of this as well as he can, and if he can't make it back into the game at least he's come away with his life.
