Oakwell

Appears Barnsleys game is on this evening, and I am reliably informed that they do not have Undersoil heating.

So, assuming that,

a) They have had very similar weather conditions to us over the last few days

b) The Stands at Oakwell interfere with the volume of light to the pitch as much as that at The Keepmoat.

What are they doing differently that has meant their game goes ahead whilst ours does not?

Genuinely interested.

Who knows its 20 odd mile away, maybe cos no lake near it could be way pitch that the sun gets too it better seeing as the 4 stands are individual stands.

To have or Get undersoil heating is far too exspsensive,
What with running costs etc etc.

From what i have read about tonights game Been called off,Its ONLY certian parts Of the pitch that is frozen due to it Been under the cover Of Roof.

Hence it takes Much longer to thaw out due to no sun getting directly onto it etc etc.

Might be a shot in the dark This ,but would it not be
Possible to just slap undersoil heating into the area Of pitch that suffers from frozen issues the most?

How about comparing the costs of rescheduling perhaps 2 or 3 home fixtures a season against the cost of installing undersoil heating etc.  The numbers may not weigh up, so we have to live with the risk of a few postponements.

Also, sometimes it is the surrounding areas that are problematic with the weather.  We can't always beat it.....

Installing is one cost, so i believe to actually use it costs are expensive.

i could afford a Rolls, but at 10 miles to the gallon.

Is the modern semi-artificial pitch at the KM more susceptible to the cold than a traditional pitch, which I suppose is what they have at Oakwell?

You've been reliably informed wrong. Oakwell has had undersoil heating for years, installed just after their Prem season. A game was recently called off, l think last season even when the undersoil heating was switched on, so it's not 100% guaranteed.

different stadium, different pitch, different town, different micro climate, different staff...

even if you are genuinely interested, does it warrant a new thread on the matter?

Confirmed by their local rag they have it, so a bit harsh to compare Rovers game being off to theirs.
