Suspended cover for the pitch
« on March 13, 2013, 09:19:11 am by ditch_drfc »
Has no one come up with a cover that hovers on some kind of stilts over the pitch yet? Something that doesn't actually touch the pitch, but prevents all weather damage when covered up?

In the 70's Leicester used to have an inflated cover over their pitch which was quite revolutionary at the time

Oldham used one to keep there game on against Liverpool. Still expensive as you need to blow warm air though.
The balance of hiring one and the operating cost against the gate receipts might just not make it worth while.

I'm sure there are one or two posters on this site that could contribute to any hot air needed ;-)

See something like that would be useful. Not sure why a cheaper option hasn't been invented yet, but i guess we just wouldn't use it enough.

The trouble would be that frost would get under easier. Plus if its snowing, the sheer weight of a pitch-sized sheet full of snow would either buckle or fall flat onto the pitch anyway.

Here's one for the boffs... If a sheet covering a whole football pitch was covered in 3-4inches of snow, how much would it weigh??

a coverage of 10cm of snow weighs the same as 1cm of rainfall.

You do the math (as our American friends might say)

Lol. One of my best mates married a Yank.  I've even been over to see them a few times. Although individually some of them can be smashing people, I'm not convinced we could describe the entire nation as 'friends'! lol. At the very least we get all their bad habits, never mind having to follow them around the globe like a pet poodle....

It is a pity there is no drug use in Doncaster or we do what Notts County are doing and use confiscated Cannabis lamps to make their grass grow..
