Its likely to be wages as well as us having other irons in the fire

Not sure of reason. I really hope he has another central midfielder in mind because none of our current lot can pass the ball - they can tackle (Keegan, Harper), run (Syers) and head the ball (Woods) but none of them can actually pass to one of our lot. Needs serious action.

May be on balance, we could pay wages towards a more familiar midfield general?

If I were a Richie man, I'd be very Wellens off.

Liam Hoden from Free Press saying that decision seems to be ours: not enough money to go round and we have decided to pursue other options.

I thought he was a goner when he wasn't in the squad today. I think he's better than Keegan or Harper but he'd probably want considerably more money than them to sign a long term deal. Is he that good to command the sort of money he'd want? Probably not, and there will be other fish in the sea.

If Liam Hoden is right that there's not enough money sploshing about, can anyone see us having enough to be able to pay Richie Wellens?

Bob- maybe it is just that we can't afford both Clingan AND A.N. Other (who may or may not be Richie Wellens).

Wellens hasn't played once for Leicester this season and hasn't played a game since 10 November when he was on loan at Ipswich. I can say without any doubt that his face doesn't fit at Leicester - he wasn't even on the bench today. Unless he is injured (unlikely) then getting at least some of his wages off the Leicester wage bill and putting him in the shop window will suit Leicester down to the ground and probably Ritchie as well.

While my mouth was watering at the thought of Wellens and Clingan playing together, if we let Clingan go to pursue Wellens then I'd still be over the moon. It's a shame things didn't work out for Clingan here, obviously Deano saw something he didn't like in him for the money he was on.

Maybe we can get 2 or even 3 players like Deano has already fetched in on the wage Clinghan will expect to sign a contract. It seems to be the reason everybody says he was not wanted by them. Not his ability but his wages.

You mean some bloke ringing radio united saying it would be nice if Chesterfield could sign him and the presenter agreeing?

If we were skint we would be where Hartlepool are now.

You don't know what following a skint club is like. You're too young to recall Rovers halycon days of 1,500 BV gates, and free transfer players .

As Mainwaring often said to Pike -- "You stupid boy." Although I say that yo everyone of your posts.

Please go away.

Yeah, we're skint. Haven't you heard? Copps, Hume and these 3 new signings who are coming in are all being paid in peanuts and Tesco vouchers. We're obviously potless.

If you're looking for a fall guy in all of this then I wouldn't be looking at Clingan or the Rovers, but I would be looking a lot closer at Clingan's agent.

I'd suspect as much, the fella needs to sack his agent before he ends up playing on sunday mornings.

Wonder why he didn't tell his agent what to do then?

I got no idea of what is contained in a contract between player and agent. Can it oblige the player to take the advice of the agent even when the alternative is no income? You would have thought that his principal being unemployed for several months would have given the agent at least a little bit of food for thought?

Presumably not though.

With Coventry's wages that they have been paying,he will have been on silly money,Dean's probably made a take it or leave it offer, and he thinks he's worth a lot more, there might still be a chance with him,if the right clubs don't show interest,on the other hand he's been with us for a bit,and Dean just hasn't selected him, maybe it's his style of play that has made Dean's mind up,we've got plenty of two yard passing, safety first midfielders,we do need someone who makes things happen, namely R.W..

As SM said it was because of his agent. Can't see him being back, and it isn't his fault either.

Most players now don't even get involved in discussions about contracts etc leave it all entirely with their agent who then informs the player what's happening.
