England

How good was that first half by England.
Totally dominated Albania and turned it into a five nil lead.
Obviously there will be detractors saying Albania are crap and pick holes in our performance.

They have worked very hard to earn that lead. No slacking by anyone there and they look hungry for more.

Have to admit I was a bit surprised by a back 3 and a solid looking midfield 4 but its been really good against a team that have probably done better in the qualifiers than people realise. Hopefully GS can find a system to allow Foden to control games going forward. I really do think this squad has everything but an elite CM, hopefully Mount or Foden can fill that role.

A mention for the referee as well. He was superb. Let the game flow, didn't blow for any slight touches. English referees take note.

The best entertainment of the night for me was Keane dissing Spurs.
And then accusing McGuire of being embarrassing regarding his goal celebration.
I cannot get remotely excited by the prospect of where this next World Cup is being hosted.

I wondered whether McGuire was flapping his ears to the Albanian fans.

Improved ball progression having Henderson in there and not Rice.

Henderson was superb.

Henderson is better than Rice, but we do seem to have options all over the pitch.

Remember when previous managers tried to fit Lampard, Gerrard and Scholes into the same team? Southgate hasn’t fallen for that with the likes of Foden and Grealish

Hound in my opinion there are. Ow no longer any totally crap international teams

Obviously there are the top echelon of countries but I think the days of expecting that type of result against lower ranked teams are over

Even the likes of Malta Gibraltar and Luxembourg are better than they used to be

Unbelievable someone is going to have to pay 100 mill for Rice this summer to get him. I imagine Man Utd will be desperate enough by then.

I'd agree with this but IMO it is because firstly, the top countries aren't actually very good when compared to teams of the past. Also, minnow countries tend to be fitter and more organised and make it harder for the top teams to break them down. That said, all you need to do as a coach against these sides that sit in, is practice breaking them down. I don't think teams work on this as well as they should.

I don't necessarily think that the tiny countries like San Marino and Andorra have improved in terms of actual footballing quality and ability. Just that they are more organised and more able to compete.

Rice is a quality player.
He is! First name on the team sheet in midfield. Bellingham is going to be immense, be a regular starter soon.

Phil, I agree that generally international teams don’t get get hit for nine or ten goals as sometimes happened in years gone by.
Primarily because they don’t try and  take on the better teams, but instead they just play ten men behind the ball which is always hard to break down.
I’m not sure though why you chose to tell me that.
