At this time of year I often think about pre-season games I would arrange if in charge.......
Celtic or Rangers at home (or away for that matter)
Somewhere abroad.....in Belgium or Holland......what a great experience! Good laugh. And no I don't mean Newport (in either Wales or IOW!).......

Doncaster Rovers in Australia...

On a realistic note, a trip to Scotland or Northern Ireland, and playing some local teams who we don't normally play, sick of playing the same dozen teams on a cycle. How hard is a trip to Goole or Harworth?

Would like Goole. That and/or a trip to Scotland. Would love Rangers but them and Celtic charge an absolute fortune for friendlies from what I've heard.

The trouble with these foreign pre season games is they always seem to be arranged a few weeks before and you are stuggling to finance these trips or get time off work at short notice in the school holiday period .

I've not read that ourselves or Rovers have been invited to this years Amsterdam Tournament or play Man Utd or Liverpool in New York as yet .

The one that really peed me off was under Spackman around 16 years ago , we announced 3 games in Tenerife , about 10 days before they flew out .

Maybe the club didn't want to risk our fans trashing Playa De Las Americas and getting a five year European ban , the loss of future champions league revenue coming in to play I guess

Anyway about a couple of hundred fans did fly out to watch two games against minor teams and the finale was a game against Tenerife themselves who were a La Liga team at the time I believe .

Apparently the second game turned in to a bit of a highly charged event , the local waiters and chefs kicked our lads off the park and a bench clearing fracas erupted involving all 22 players , coaches and medical staff .

A big shout out to the waiters because it was the quickest Spackman's lot moved all season , he'd lost his job by october and we were relegated at the end of the season .

We didn't beat Manual's lot either , a late Mike Sheron goal rescued us , he didn't get too many more either that season .

I think Tenerife saw off Spackman's league one bound collection of booze culture overpaid numptys to the tune of 4-0 , it was said it was the players who chose the destination of the tour , nobody was surprised .

Be careful what you wish for Rovers , all that glitters aint gold .
