Pre signing medicals

What does it include? 10 press ups and a steady jog around Cantley Park?

Over the past 3 seasons we have signed far too many sick notes, Close is a perfect example. Cracking player when he is on the pitch but has spent more than half his time at the club out injured. There are far too any of these cases for it to be just down to bad luck.

Then don’t get me started on the incorrect diagnosis of our injuries. How many players over the past few years have we been told would be back in weeks and then “a setback” occurs leaving them out for a further 4/5 months.

All good investing in a big squad. No wonder we could afford these players. They came at a discounted price as nobody else wanted them and they are happy to pick up a wage whilst spending most of their careers in the treatment room.

Taylor and I think Fejiri both issued really angry statements saying basically they had been very badly treated which has put their careers in peril. Some of this will be outside control of the club but it’s true that good players are not playing due to their treatment programmes. Madness.

Close was hardly injured until he came here

Wood was hardly injured until he came here

Taylor was hardly injured until he came here

Can you see the pattern?

Stop signing players over the age of 25 and/or who have had previous injury issues?

25 is a low age DBR. If we had that policy fans would demand we need to sign experience.
I dont think its the players, something isnt right within the club, how can we sign players who have no history of injuries suddenly changed to regular crocks.
Wood never got injuries at rotherham and was essential to them last season in the championship, and now fans here claiming he is awful.

Of course they would. If we as a club were to introduce such a policy, then most would think it nuts. One or two, will say we should only be signing young hungry players who we could potentially make a profit on.  The very same people would then sat we need experience.

The truth is, whether it's stats, pedigree, age,  experience, medical record etc, at some point, we have to compromise.

There's no one fix all solution. Fortunes can only change with stability and time to gradually improve the squad in the image and character the manager sees fit.

It’s still early days but Bailey, Senior and potentially Sterry, look good or very good signings. All came from lower profile non league sides. There is some talent down there. Past strategies or EPL try before you buy, or aged and expensive League One signings, have rarely worked.

Can’t remember how Close initially got injured but Taylor was an impact injury that seemed to not be treated correctly.
Wood had hardly missed any games but unfortunately he is the wrong age to recover quickly now

Stokes from Aldershot. Good age. Great work rate. We need to look at leagues below us and nurture them. Peterborough have done it and continue to do it well and make good profit when they sell

13 signings in the summer window. Only Ironside, Faal, Senior, Nixon and Bailey have really contributed. We need a better strike rate than that. By the way, signing two out and out wingers in Sotona and Roberts, then changing the system rendering them surplus to requirements, is borderline criminal btw. Hopefully they are on next to nothing and not draining resources.
