Now if that’s true and it happens then that’s what a call a marquee signing for a League 2 Club.

Great news if true, I know he's no spring chicken, but he's got more minerals and fight in his little toe than most of last years squad put together. Experienced head will bring on the young lads and he'll take no prisoners for sure!

He will be brilliant for Bobby Faulkners development.
Wood, Anderson, Olowu, Faulkner and Long gives us solid centre back options.
Really hope this deal come off.

I wonder if GM might use Faulkner at right back?

I’m not sure why you would try shoehorn him at right back. From what I’ve seen I don’t think he has the attributes to be bombing up and down the line and getting crosses in. Far to defensive minded to play rb

Am hoping he can get the shambolic defensive unit sorted. He comes with absolutely superb credentials, and we can all hope he is Rob Jones rather than Richard Naylor.

NO I hope is the answer to that one.

You will have Brian ( Selby ) on your case Alan with suggestions like that.   ;)

Fit as a flea by all accounts, out trained 20-24 year olds at a championship team

He is a leader and that’s what we need. He will be as near another Rob Jones as we could possibly find.
Even if we only get one season out of him it will be a brilliant signing imo.

38 is only a number.
If he is fit and from what we have heard and seen he is.
Playing centre back in league 2 is not a problem at that age if he is fit.
He just needs some pace along side him at centre back in a 2 or 3 whichever GM is going to play.

That back line is crying out for someone who could actually organise a piss up in a brewery. His experience, leadership and ability is what we need.

If Big Tom can rediscover his arse from his elbow, and Olowu continues to improve, along with Faulkner maturing, we have enough there for either a 3 or a 2.  The missing link was someone to organise the line which hopefully Wood can do.

I guess we have to ask the question do we prefer Wood or Williams? I know which way I am leaning.

In a league that has the likes of Cook at Bradford and Smith at Salford, Richard Wood will not be bullied. Nor will he allow others to be bullied. Will complement the pace and athleticism of Olowu and Faulkner nicely.

Exactly.

We have sorely missed someone like this. Someone to set standards and not let shoulders be shrugged.
Someone who can have the “wears a magic hat song” sung about them.

Announced today?

He started 21 times in the Championship. Dropping down to League Two is a coup, whatever his age. We’ve had an absolute embarrassment of a defensive unit for the last few seasons. He is a guy who can sniff shit when he sees it and there’s been enough shit spread around our box recently.

I'm not displeased, just saying I wouldn't call it a marquee signing.

In isolation as a player for a season the signing is probably fine. It won’t be for a year though will it. Likely to be two. Always huge risks associated with signing players in their late 30’s.

If he stays fit, of course he is. It’s what we put in front of him that could make one hell of a difference.

Hopefully, this happens as we need a leader on the pitch

Wood played more matches in championship this season than Anderson managed in League 2.

As above he is reportedly very comfortable at that level so L2 should be a walk in the park.

Sounds like a great signing to me and a significant upgrade on previous. The leader we need at the back. Maybe it'll free Rowe up from CB!

I suspect it may be with a view to moving into a coaching role as that's the route he was heading at Rotherham.

I hope there is a pay as you play element to any deal to protect the club, but saying that the guy has played around or over 30 games a season for the last 6 or 7 seasons, so why should he have any issues..? Butts showed how you can play at a good level as you are getting older..

No question about it he starts for me over Anderson every time , a big season ahead for Tom I don’t think he warrants a starting place next season for me

Why the fuss about his age? Remind me how old was Copps when he played his last game?

He is still a very good player. Was at Rotherham 3 weeks ago with my Burnley supporting son in law and Wood was excellent. He is very vocal as well as still being a good defender.
