Ravenhill

Anyone there or on TV pick up anything after his tackle? Looked a good tackle to me but was he looking distraught after the injury or anything? Trying to figure out the substitution...

McSheffrey said they took him off because the Bradford players and referee would target him. Good management.

GM subbed him for his own protection, they would of gone to town on him after that injury, feel for the lad, strong tackle like we have wanted all last season but the Bradford player was just unlucky, should never of been carded in my opinion.

Good strong tackle, unfortunate for their lad. He got clattered minutes before so just getting stuck in for me. Reminded me of his Dad.

I think McS probably took him off to protect him from their players and fans, and to avoid a second yellow. He didn’t seem too distraught to play on from where I was sat.

Horror challenge, studs up on the follow through. Double leg break for the lad.

Fair challenge on my opinion, won the ball and no studs up, the Bradford lad was unlucky

Seems like it should of been a throw in IMO, no freekick, no yellow card. Just a freak injury

Perfectly good challenge. The art of tackling has gone out of football. Accidents happen in matches, shouldn't even have been a yellow card.

Have to admit from the amount of "he won the ball first..." posts on twitter that I was expecting a horror of a follow through but that's more of a slide than a lunge for me. Hope the lad recovers but I really don't think that's a red. Slow mo may show different of course.

Ravenhill had already made full contact with the ball and it had gone before the defender who was late came in for the tackle, very unlucky for the defender, but Ravenhill did nothing more than what happens on a pitch countless times in a game.We have wanted our players to put themselves about and that's exactly what Ravenhill did, no malice intended.

Others saying a late lunge with studs high really need to take another look.

Good tackle to me? Fair enough if he subbed to take him out of the situation.

Usually if opposition player consider it a bad tackle there would be some fisticuffs, there was nothing from the Bradford players, apart from those closest he saw the extent of the injury and called for assistance

Good tackle the follow through is a bit nasty though and in the game now no one likes that because it’s almost aiming to hurt the opposition player.

Not heard what Highes has said about it he’d mention it if it were that bad. As mentioned the reaction of the Bradford players isn’t what you’d get with a leg breaker

I think it looks worse because looks like Liam slips with his standing foot while his tackling foot is on the ground winning the ball. It wasn't a studs up challenge however, it was unfortunate the player was injured badly.

Right to sub Liam. All part of the character building process. Did Ian Snodin no harm mixing it with the big boys.

Zero wrong with that challenge. The Bradford lad was late to the tackle.

I actually thought we should have had a free kick when it first happened, however I feared the worst when the ref pulled a card out

It was a foul, he knew he was winning the ball and going straight through their man.

If it is a sending off it’s because the follow through in endangering an opposition player. If we got the coverage of premier league that’s what the consensus would be

Well it is
The rules say winning the ball is irrelevant now if you’re endangering the other player.

Bit reckless but agree the Bradford players timing is all wrong and that contributes a lot.  Did he need to go in so hard? Perhaps not but there were a few big tackles just prior to that which the ref let go.

Hang on a min.

This is where we need some understanding, particularly from refs to need to interpret what they see, and it helps if you've played the game.

The balls there to be won, both players go for it, neither with intention to hurt the opponent, so are we expecting Liam or the other lad to pull out?

Had Liam have tried to pull out, he would have got the full force from the other lad, risking getting injured himself.

At least the ref applied some common but you could debate whether it was a yellow at all. Remove the 20,000 crowd, take out their players initial reaction and judge the coming together in isolation. Both players wanting to win the ball.
