La Manga
« on July 01, 2019, 08:55:01 pm by NickDRFC »
Just seen a tweet from Liam Hoden saying that the players are at a camp out there, and the party includes Gavin Baldwin. A bit surprised at the latter part - would have thought he’d be busy with the search for the new manager. Does this mean that interviews won’t start for a few days (appreciate it could take time to set something up but surely an out of work manager would be available to come in pretty much immediately) or is Gavin not heavily involved in the recruitment process? Or could Liam Hoden have it wrong?

If we are only talking a couple of days or so, GB can jump on a plane and be back for interviews this week.

Not having a pop, but perhaps you’re reading too much into this.?

Not a bad idea. Didn't Dickov get interviewed there for about 3 weeks?

It does seem a bit bazaar that the CEO in charge of recruiting a new manager at this crucial time of the proceedings is basically on holiday .

I assume you know what he's going to be doing out there then? Because I know people on here never jump to conclusions so it can't be that.

A normal bazaar? Or will it be a bizarre bazaar? And why is Gavin visiting little shops? These questions all need answering before loads of people on here just make stuff up and portray it as facts. E.g. people saying he's on holiday when he could equally have agreed/decided to interview candidates over there to avoid the eyes of the local media. Or the fact it's only a couple of hours flight means he can be back in Doncaster by lunchtime.

It could be that he is trying to sell the club to the Spanish people.

I'm sure that Gavin wouldn't go over there without good reason.
I'm also sure that our board are savvy enough not to let him be anywhere but here if he was needed here.

Maybe he's in training just in case Marquis buggers off on the eve of the new season starting , then he can slot in nicely at Center Forward.

Not a single person who has gone to Spain as part of the Doncaster Rovers group is on holiday. Do you think Gavin is chilling by the pool sipping pina coladas whilst the players and coaching staff train? Come off it.

If Gavin is over there, there will be a working reason for it.

Wonder if Schofield has his hat in the ring for the job and Gavin is watching what he does...just speculation.

No .. Giving Schofield the job would leave the club without that plan B required  in an emergency. He is the perfect foil and seems well capable of keeping calm and not letting idle speculation about players leaving or a new manger get in the way of the preparations  the club need for 20/21.

Maybe, in McCann's absence, Gavin is just providing some continuity and reassurance, before travelling back for the interviews.

In this modern world, you can run a business from almost anywhere, though I'm sure he'll want to do any interviewing face to face.

I would imagine he’s over there to maintain some authority and discipline.

It would be very easy for the players away from the normal training ground not to push themselves because they aren’t being judged by the man who will pick the starting XI.

I agree. I think that with Steve Foster unavailable it was the best option.

It won't be authority and discipline.

It's a two fold reason, one is that it's easier to work from there without all the distractions that the Keepmoat would bring, meaning the screening of candidates and creating short lists can happen easier and quicker, whilst at the same time showing loyalty and support to the players.

My understanding is the players are extremely pleased to see the management out there whilst knowing full well the current workload is at a very high level.

How about hes gone out there to speak with representatives from another club, who wish to buy Marquis and his agent is out there too. All done in a nice peaceful setting, away from prying eyes.
