I understand the passion with which people want to continue the fight to remain.
It was commendable, from everyone - but now is sadly the time to step back, for a while ,
from frontline campaigning - now is the time for allowing it to play out , scrutinizing every development & reminding people that this is what they voted for
I’ll post this as a starter :
UK House of Commons@HouseofCommons
MPs have voted against New Clause 2 being added to the European Union (Withdrawal Agreement) Bill, by 344 votes to 255. This new clause would have required the Government to negotiate a comprehensive agreement with the EU protecting workers’ rights.
This means your annual leave, working hours, maternity, paternity, sick leave and pay, accessibility and protections against discrimination in the work place, grievance policies and tribunals. This is what they always meant by “red tape”.

Erasmus , yes , does make you wonder how denying ouir children the opportunity to be funded to study in Europe , makes us 'better off' after Brexit.
meanwhile next up today
The #Brexit effect has hit South Yorkshire with redundancies in the steel industry. The management have said Brexit is a factor. The majority of redundancies are in Stockbridge which voted for Brexit and returned a new Tory MP.
Miriam Cates, the newly-elected Conservative MP for Penistone and Stocksbridge, described the news as "devastating". ( won't affect her MP's salary I think )

Our sympathies are with the victims of #JohnsonsBrexit, no matter how they voted.

Another potential "Brexit dividend"...
Man gets ‘Brexit surprise’ on invoice for new Mercedes-Benz
A man has no idea how much he will end up paying for his new Mercedes-Benz after a ‘Brexit disclaimer’ was put on it. John Hamill, 65, completed his order on Thursday, only to be handed an invoice with a stamp that said the price could change any time up to delivery day, should a customs duty tariff be put on cars imported into the UK after leaving the EU. The retired company director, from Hamilton in Scotland, was not told the cost could change prior to putting down a £500 deposit. He says staff were also unable to give him a firm date of delivery, meaning he could be waiting until May to know the final price. John told Metro.co.uk: ‘I ordered the car, I paid the £500 deposit and then they handed me the invoice – and that’s when I found out the price I’ll finally be paying is actually unknown. You couldn’t miss the big stamp. ‘You would think they’d tell me this before, but they didn’t.’ He added: ‘They couldn’t give me an estimate of how much the price could go up by because they don’t know what’s happening.’

When I got mine it was 13 weeks from ordering. Took 10 weeks to be allocated a chassis number in Munich! Only sat in Thorne for 48 hours in the process

Production of a key Vauxhall Astra variant is being SHIFTED to GERMANY from the UK, raising fresh fears for the firm's Ellesmere Port plant in Cheshire.
Vauxhall owner PSA Group will make the Astra estate in Russelsheim from 2022 - ratcheting up pressure on Ellesmere Port and its 1,000 staff.
The estate model represents the vast bulk of the 59,000 cars which roll off the UK site's production line each year, and losing it is a severe blow.
It comes as car industry chiefs nervously await trade talks between Brussels and the UK. Lobbyists say that if tariffs are introduced then it will wreck their supply chain and trigger mass British factory closures.

I moved my tinned food from one cupboard to a different one, eant to blame Brexit for that too?

''Businesses have predicted price rises after the UK chancellor, Sajid Javid, said there would be no alignment with EU regulations once Britain’s exit from the European Union was made official.
In what is being seen as an opening salvo in the next stage of negotiations, Javid said the Treasury would not lend support to manufacturers that favour EU rules as the sector had had three years to prepare for Britain’s transition.''
And of course the government was over-prepared with the ferries being the star of the show :)
''The Confederation of British Industry (CBI) on Saturday said alignment supported jobs and competitiveness for many firms. The group’s director general, Carolyn Fairbairn, said business “recognises there are areas where the UK can benefit from its future right to diverge from EU regulation” but urged government “not to treat this right as an obligation to diverge”.
“For some firms, divergence brings value, but for many others, alignment supports jobs and competitiveness – particularly in some of the most deprived regions of the UK,” she said.
The co-executive director of the British Chamber of Commerce, Claire Walker, said that while business communities were prepared to be pragmatic about coming changes to regulation, “uncertainty around the extent of divergence risks firms moving their production elsewhere”.''
but what would the CBI know aye? :)

Selby I've put your phone number in the comments about the story as recruitment officer you should be getting a few calls soon :)

Selby.
Odd then that, after a decade of horrifically low growth, the Govt itself is predicting that outmr growth rate will remain 1-1.5% below the long term trend until the middle of the decade.
That'll lose us another £250-400bn of output, on top of the £200bn we've already lost due to Brexit, on top of the £2-300bn we lost due to the Tories' Austerity.
You're picking up crumbs of, hopefully, good news, and missing the point that the cake itself is hugely smaller than it should be.
Classic case of looking at individual trees and failing to see what's happening to the whole wood.

Car parts factory Antolin Interiors to close Hartlip factory putting 300 jobs at risk
Up to 300 workers face losing their jobs after a major employer announced it is to shut its factory.
Staff at Antolin Interiors, which makes car parts for companies like Jaguar Land Rover have been told the site in Spade Lane off the A2 at Hartlip near Sittingbourne is to close.
"The mood in the factory is very low. Everybody is gutted. For the past year we have been worrying about our jobs but we were told it was OK.
"We all knew we were losing business but definitely did not expect to close so soon."
"The company has decided to move our work to the Midlands into other plants as they have more plants up there. They say our plant is not performing, mainly due to Brexit.

If it's down to brexit why move to the Midlands? Sounds like a move they'd have made anyway.

Maybe it's the general downturn in the enonomy caused by the uncertainty of brexit. It has been going on for more than 3 years. Low growth low wages low spending = low manufacturing.

Erm, thus it isnt a downturn is it? Low perhaps but not going backwards.

BFYP.
We are in a decade-long slump compared to our economic performance for 60 years after WWII. Brexit is doing, and will continue to exacerbate that. No one sensibly doubts that.

Diesel, electric, duel fuel, a discussion on the radio today with experts came up with the choice at the moment is duel fuel favourite, great deals available on Diesel the savings buy a lot of fuel if you are prepared to keep the car a long time. Fully electric what happens when the battery is no good after five years? the car is worthless, how will the battery be disposed of? the infrastructure for charging could cost up to £50 billion.
The general concurrences was, don't buy unless you have to for two years, and probably Hydrogen will be the winner in the end. If you have to and live in country, tow a caravan, do a lot of mileage, only go into town and city rarely diesel but drive a bargain. for city and general duel fuel. Electric were only a small percentage of car sales last year, if you do only short journeys live in a city or built up area, and have charging facilities, and can afford another five to seven years down the line Electric will do the job.
Please dispose of the batteries responsibly.

I don't think so buddy, just don't honestly know what programme it was on, Whoever it was did state that car sales this month were up on the sales in January last year,
Until I or whoever sees or hears the figures again then we will see. I do know what I heard while driving let's wait and see.
I know people will come on at me if I misheard, but stand by your beds I will let you know if I am correct. Might even give you a pan handle to wear with name calling like that buddy.

ask yourself-is it probable?
take notes
eat said notes :) :)

ThTs something that we can negotiate without having some some fat tard from Benelux telling us what to do
-
You think this Govt is going to negotiate freedom of movement?
What, precisely have you been doing this past 3 years?
Ldr. You know when you say I'm being spiteful and unpleasant telling Leave supporters that they need to man-up and own the outcome? THIS sort of nonsense is what I'm talking about. This passionate support for Leaving without the first idea of what Leaving means, and the child-like assumption that somebody will wave a wand and make all the difficult things go away.

Our government's official view of a trade deal with the EU....

And the EU's view of the same deal....

So an Australian style, (a polite way of saying No Deal), Deal is now looking very likely - and all the problems that go with it.

Looks like Johnson is going to negotiate a trade deal with the EU with both hands tied behind his back, sort of like threatening all the other clubs by telling them, well we're not going to buy any players at all in this transfer window, so suck on that! :)

Another way of looking at the national debt is this: debt per person is £34,676. Debt per taxpayer is £59,643. According to the National Debt Clock, the debt increases at the rate of £5,170 per second, or £310, 200 per minute, or £18,612,000 per hour, or £446.6 million per day.

Gove in the Leave Campaign said
We are going to have an ambitious comprehensive free trade deal with the EU
But now Gove tells the truth-
In the first official confirmation that the government is going to impose trade barriers post-Brexit, he warned there would be checks on food and goods of animal origin, plus customs declarations and mandatory safety and security certificates required for all imports.

But those aren't mutually exclusive - we can have a fully comprehensive free trade agreement but we will still have to impose all those checks and bureaucracy because we're not in the Single Market any more. Removing trade friction was what the Single Market was all about and anybody who thought we could leave the Single Market and keep frictionless trade was either an idiot or a credulous fool. As I've been telling people for years!

But this is what Honda said in its statement to Govt when we were still debating what sort of Brexit we wanted.

Of course, the Leave merchants promised us a Brexit of Frictionless, Tariff-less Trade. Right the way up to last week, when they announced there WOULD be tariffs and administration at the border, and it was up to business to suck it up.
You were warned about this. Be grown up enough now to realise it is happening.

Selby.
Yes. It's bad. But as I keep on saying, and no Brexit supporter has ever once addressed, they had a boom for 2.5 years while we were already slumping. Now there's a strong possibility of a global recession on the horizon. Europe will be hurt. Do you think we will be spared?

-
Selby.
No. I focus on the big picture internationally, and the detail of what happens in THIS country. Do you expect folk to comment on every detailed economic sector indicator from every country in the world?
What you do and what you've done consistently is to ignore the massive big picture (we generally did a bit better than the rest of the EU for 40 years until 2016, we've done a hell of a lot worse since then) and instead scrat about looking for detailed factoids indicating that we are booming and they are collapsing.
So you ignore the demonstrable fact that we've lost something approaching £150-200bn of economic activity relative to the EU since the 2016 vote. And instead you chuck in incorrect "facts" about our economy booming, or specific detailed comments about the precise current problems of sectors of the EU economy.

As bst has stated you appear to be making much of any possible turmoil within the EU surrounding the UK's departure but maybe you would do better to tell us how your supposed heros are going to manage the all important trade deal with the EU and the relationship that rides along with it, you could of course give them the benefit of some good advice as it now appears that CumJo now want a deal with the EU that they could possibly have had years ago.
Unfortunately the more the deal gets closer to 'free trade' the more red lines are going to get painted over.
And of course CumJo have painted themselves into another corner by stating an impossible deadline.
What are your predictions, who do you think will score first? will it be the same team? do you think the UK will 'win' or will the negotiators return with tail between legs.

Sydney
It is impossible to predict how the trade deal will pan out as both sides are yet to finalise the final text outlining their opening negotiation position. Previously the EU were encouraging a ‘Canada Style’ FTD. Now, they are saying this can only be achieved if the UK adheres to an expanding range of EU rules and regulations. The UK isnt asking for a bespoke deal. They are clear in asking for a deal that is similar to EU deals with Canada, Japan and Korea. In 2017 this was also the EU preferred arrangement and yet now they are adding on an increasing number of caveats for the UK to follow. Why are they doing this? Simply because having a nation so geographically close to the EU that is free to trade on WTO rules and without EU constraint worries them greatly. Understandably. Of course, this is mostly a phoney war as a deal is in the interests of both parties, however the UK position seems to be more emphasis on self regulation and sovereignty than it does on economics.
When I was in Germany recently Brexit cropped up in many discussions I had with people. The overriding things that cropped up again and again were:
general sadness that we are leaving. The Germans consider us their only real equal partner in the EU.
A distinct lack of trust with the French. A common comment was that they should be leaving at not the UK!
Huge concern about the attitudes of the Eastern and Southern European countries towards the EU.
A kind of resignation that much of the shortfall in financial contribution will fall on Germany’s shoulders

Just been listening on the radio news to a piece about the trade negotiations with the EU.
It suddenly hit me.
Back in 2016, folk on the Leave side said that there was no intention to leave the Single Market. Saying otherwise was Project Fear.
Then after the Referendum, it was all about getting frictionless access to the SM. There were a few nutters on the far right obsessing about a clean break and a Canada- type Free Trade Agreement. But they were ignored. The Treasury itself ran economic models which said that a Canada FTA would result in our GDP dropping by 5% compared to staying in the EU. That's £100bn per year. Enough to build an HS2 EVERY YEAR. No country is going to be so f**king stupid as to choose to do that to itself.
That was the line right up to the Election in December.
Then it suddenly flipped. Now a Canada FTA is explicit Govt policy. And the EU is saying that we can only have that with certain conditions. Conditions which the Govt says are not acceptable.
So we've gone from a Canada-TYPE FTA not being remotely discussed because it was so stupid, to a Canada-style FTA being the best we can possibly hope for.
This is absolute insanity. We, the population, are sleepwalking into an utter f**king catastrophe. And no-one cares anymore.

It'll only get folk upset because it is so f**king stupid. The Government's own figures say that a WTO exit would knock 6-9% off GDP. Which is the same sort of effect as losing a major war. So no sane Governme....hang on! I've just seen the error in my logic.

More information on the Govt's figures on the pitifully small boost our economy would get from a trade deal with the USA.
https://mobile.twitter.com/BenChu_/status/1234523136529485832
Lose 4-8% of GDP by cutting ties with the EU.
Gain 0.07-0.22% of GDP by dealing with the USA.
That's a net loss of £90-180bn. Every year.
Enough to build a HS2 every 6-12 months. For the forseeable future.
Still, we took back control, eh?
At what point do Leave supporters start to question themselves?

Aye. I'm sure they'd be queuing round the block.

Here's the bit I don't get.
There's teams of stuff on these pages by Leave supporters up in arms a out the horrendous financial cost to us that membership of the EU entailed.
BB today suggested it was an expensive protection racket. And yeah, it did cost us £10bn per year "membership fee".
Ldr has posted before about his concern at how much we spent on bailing out Greece. We actually didn't give anything through the EU to a Greek bailout, but why let facts get in the way of a good rant about the EU, eh?
Sproty has waded in in the past about the horror of us putting about £10bn into loans to Ireland and Portugal. Which were paid back. With interest.
But when faced with the prospect that we stand to lose £90-160bn per year by choosing to cut our ties with the EU, the response is "meh".
I dunno. Maybe they are all really good wind up merchants and they have a good old giggle at this?
-
Hilarious. Do you charge for people to watch?
Well it would be one way to make up for the lost income you are worrying so much about
It's a shame that not a single brexiteer not the government as yet are capable of showing where the money will come from to replace this gaping hole in the national accounts. When supposedly taking back control it's becoming bleedingly obvious daily that the proponents of this mess have given control to a mindless propaganda machine that is prepares to say anything to get through to the next day, and moreover they (brexiteers) have abandoned commonsense in favour of petulant outbursts as some sort of defence.
There is no plan no coherent agenda just series of stabs in the dark and defensive outburst as johnson tries to maintain a positive front, his pro-brexit front bench are having difficulty with the chook raffle and instead of them concentrating with the major task in hand keeping the country solvent they are pissing around with the side issues of which more than likely they will have to concede as unmanageable further down the track.
Did well in exam, coursework a mess with little to show for 10 years at the helm.

It’s a massively expensive stupid damaging thing, & it’s weakening our economy & society more every day.
Brexit is dire folly.

But that Foxbat would means a massive climb down from the the proponents of it and they don't even know what they don't know at present.
We are only aware of what the cost is so far around 200bn + and the scope of a US deal shows that few trade deals will ever replace the massive hit to the GDP that brexit will cause, I reckon we'll know much in 2 years and somewhere more accurate in 10.

i don't recall anyone even mentioning the cost of leaving in the EURef2016.
It was all about the money we would save. But it turns out the cost of leaving will be more than we've paid into the EU in 47 years.
22,000 civil servants working on EU exit at peak.
-If that were a standalone dept it would be the sixth biggest in Whitehall.

It's time for who to stop Brexit?

Anyone with commonsense Steve I would have thought at this stage unless you are holding back some important information that shows Britain is going to be a better place but somehow I doubt it. ;)

Why the **** are we doing this?
''UK will leave EU aviation safety regulator at end of 2020''
''ADS has estimated that it would take 10 years and cost up to £40m annually to create a UK safety authority with all the expertise of EASA, against a current contribution to the European agency of £1m to £4m a year''

Look Sydney, it's no good using common sense, the leavers have got their blue passports, that's all that seems to matter.
Just don't tell them that the words on the shield are French, they won't be happy with that!

meanwhile , in the real world, another one gone
"Maintenance firm Magnetic MRO has transferred a UK production centre to Estonia in order to remain within the European Union."

After all the people losing the jobs as a result of the coronavirus were now heading straight for a no deal exit and killing the economy more. Can we get odds on financial depression?

Fighting like rats in a sack in the Eurozone , I don't see much evidence of solidarity over there .
When push comes to shove its every country for itself .

Absolutely insane.
We are forecast to lose 13% of GDP this year which is an amount that no-one alive has ever experienced.
Not in the GFC
Not in Maggie's mini-depression in 1980-82 that put 4 million out of work.
Not in the Great Depression.
And on top of that, Brexit is forecast to cut another 4-8% off GDP.
Absolutely insane.
It's like someone having a heart attack and saying they need to discharge themselves from hospital because the doctors won't let them slash their wrists.

Think of the Bonanza episode Tyke where the neighbours are giving the Cartwright's grief and Hoss wants to ride out and sort them out, but Ben has some wise words and asks little Joe to break a pencil in half-which he does but then he asks him to break a bunch of pencils which he can't ''so you see Hoss (says Ben) if the family sticks together like the pencils we'll overcome the problems''

Sticking together would be the Germans and the Dutch sticking it to Italy and Spain with more austerity pie to eat whilst their already fragile economies totally collapse because of the pandemic and their so called support .
Terrific !!!!!! .
