as looks like the UK has caved in to letting the crafty b@stards not be required to show a country of origin label on this muck , only safe way is no chicken whatsover for me.
That is until I am on holiday in an EU country with proper food standards.

More benefits of Brexit!

But but but, weren't we leaving to take back control? You know, to stop those damn foriners telling us what to do? Next thing you know the US courts will have the final say in any dispute!
Thanks for nothing Brexiters :turd:
-
They created H1N1 because of their "standards". Genuinely can't understand why someone want us to be closer to US than the EU.
-
OMG - what next ?
Worringly Gove is probably lying anyway

you could just have labels that just say British chickens for example thou? Would they not be safe?

no that is true

And who is to say british farmers won't lower their standards to compete, that is the name of the game lowering standards for more profit, removing workers rights for less pay that is what leaving the EU is all about.

Great idea - but with humans involved all trying to capitalise would you believe the Label anyway as there have been so many cases of Best Before dates being altered for one and who remembers the Minced Beef that contained Horse meat
Not for me !

Can anyone point me in direction of the science on this, preferably without politics?

Personally I don't have a problem with chlorinated chicken being sold in the UK. It is relatively safe chicken.
However, it doesn't meet the quality standards of EU chicken, which is the product I would prefer to pay a little more to eat.
So the key for me is labelling. If the country of origin is printed on the packaging, or there is a label that states it meets EU standards then fine.
However, I suspect any trade agreement will specifically state such labelling is not required. I think it's wrong to hide such information from the consumer.

.... the chickens are probably lucky
.... US Pork farmers are insisting that Ractopmine fed Pork MUST form part of the US/UK Trade deal despite Ractopamine is banned in the UK , EU Russia China a FURTHER 100 Countries around the world
This is part of the reason (and remember Liar Johnson was promising increased welfare for animals before the Election . OOPS he won so forget all those loose wishy washes LIES
and ractopamine pork – pigs fed with a growth hormone (animal lovers look away for this next bit) that turns them into “downers”, still sentient but too weak to walk to the slaughterhouse, so they have to be dragged. They are often cruelly mishandled on the way, basically treated like carcasses before they have died. “Harmonising” standards (the language is all so emollient) with the US would also mean legalising hundreds of pesticides.
The lousy LYING heartless 2 faced ****ing scumbag

Dont worry. If it came from KFC,its English

I think people have misunderstood the nature of my OP - and this whole issue.
What I see from this - and a guide to the way forward - is not just the Johnson Government saying one thing in public and doing another but also that they as the Brexit Campaign and ministers in the run up to the last GE have said one thing and done another.
It probably also gives a guide to the future in that the Johnson Government has caved in completely to American trade demands. If we want something - we do as they say. Get used to it.
10 January 2020 - Environment secretary Theresa Villiers: "We will not be importing chlorinated-chicken. We will not be importing hormone-treated beef'
30 January 2020 - US secretary of state Mike Pompeo on LBC radio made clear that if the UK wanted a trade deal, it would need to open its food cupboards to US producers.
23 February 2020 - What happened next suggests the message was heard loud and clear in London. Asked about the pledge to keep the food standards less than a month after Pompeo's intervention, the new environment secretary George Eustice refused to guarantee the ban
5 May 2020 - This is when trade talks with the US formally opened. On this day Chuck Grassley, the Republican senator from the farming state of Iowa who chairs the US senate - elaborated further. Getting banned US food on British plates wasn't just part of the deal... as far as he was concerned, it was the deal.
4 June 2020 - Government ready to open British markets to chlorinated chicken for US trade deal
https://www.independent.co.uk/news/uk/politics/boris-johnson-chlorinated-chicken-trump-us-trade-a9549876.html
And clearly now why would British farmers keep chickens to EU standards. They wont be able to sell them in the EU.
In fact why would they keep them at all? What is to stop them being taken over and closed down by US Agri Business so they don't compete with their farmers?
-
Well we need to refuse to buy their crap.
I would rather buy from farm shops or become a veggie than line greedy Us firm's pockets.

The problem with a small country like the UK trading with massive trading countries like the US and when it comes to it China and India we don't have as much to offer and we need them so we will get bullied in to accepting what they tell us to have. Like when Samoa got a trade deal with the US and ended up with turkey tails, a fatty gland which no one in the US would eat. When NAFTA happened Mexico started getting everything filled with corn syrup and obesity sky rocketed. The EU's size allowed us to be one of those big trading nations that could tell the likes of the US what we wanted without being pushed around but unfortunately not anymore.
We've already changed story on chlorinated chickens, who knows what next? The NHS?
-
The NHS will be in the Trade deal with the US as Trump was demanding it
It would be difficult to "get through" now as people are watching it with pride - but time and stealth will lead to some form of commercialisation
Im almost 70 and maybe not in my lifetime but who on here would state that they will NEVER be paying Medical Insurance like the US citizens do ?

DO, what if we could get together with around 30 other countries or so to form a trading bloc where we could trade between each other without tariffs and use the combined muscle to get better deals with those bigger countries like the US & India etc ........... if only we had a government that had business connections that could drive this idea .................... :)

Why are we bothered about what Australia does.

Why are we bothered about what Australia does.
I think you will find that our government has been pushing the idea of an 'Australian style' deal with the EU.
Be useful to know what that is I would have thought?

You don't have to be, keep on being a little britisher hound hollding your grudges chasing people arounf the forum :)
-
I have no grudges but I wondered why you kept on saying “we” when you clearly are not in the uk.
Oh, and you are quite insignificant to me so why would I follow you round the forum.
This isn’t Twitter you know.
-
You'd better apprise forum members of your new rules including how far they are allowed to live from the ground, how long they allowed are to be absent and presumably what they are allowed to say hound woof woof :suicide:

That is one of the more morally bankrupt soundbites of this Govt (and f**k me, but it has some competition...)
And Australia Deal means No Deal Whatsoever. And yes, this Govt HAS said that one of our acceptable outcomes is an Australia Deal.

Well, if DRFC had anything to do with government decisions then that comment might have some merit.
Obviously being a DRFC fan has no boundaries but you were clearly speaking of “we” in different context to the Rovers.
-
Well I'm glad we have got that sorted :)

After all that then, what is the problem with letting the public have their choice? Make it marked give people the facts and let them decide?
-
Slight problem with that if we import cheaper chloro chicken and pigs fed on who knows what the poorer of society will not have a choice but to buy it to balance the household budget bfyp.

The US are strongly against labelling.
"The US government also officially considers country-of-origin labelling a barrier to trade, suggesting it is likely to push for such practices to be outlawed in a free trade agreement. This would make it impossible for consumers to tell whether their product had been sourced from the US."

... and as I said earlier (once or twice) it said Beef Lasagne on lots of products recently - but it was Horsemeat
Lots of unscrupulous people have been "done" for altering the labels from a Best Before date to a much later BB date
Lots of people sell "fake fur" products that were supposed to do away with horrible suffering to farmed Mink etc. So what happened ? Well the fake fur is much more expensive to produce so - yes you might have guessed - suppliers still farm Mink etc and supply them AS FAKE to the garment manufacturers
My advice or question is how can we ever trust anything seen on a Label if there are humans involved in the supply chain ?
-
I wasn't aware BB was involed Wolf?

Is current food labelling a UK or EU rule.?
If the latter, chances are that will go for a burton. I hope I am wrong..

EU rule but we'll (at the moment) be adopting it.
-
If the UK doesn't adhere to strict EU policies regarding labels and quality etc the extra tariffs won't be a problem as they will not allow imports of UK food products.
-
I'm sure this is all a misunderstanding.
Here's Michael Gove on TV last year categorically promising that we won't be lowering food standards.
And when have you EVER seen him lie on TV?

Interesting. The fullness of time will tell us if this is indeed true, or just another lie to passify people who are concerned about erosion of standards.

The first reply in the thread gives a good indicator I should think.
One person's 'lower food standards' is someone else's 'business opportunity'.
