This covers Accrington Stanley to Bury. Really surprised to see Gareth Roberts in there. Not surprised to see Justin Jackson though.
Thoughts on ours? Excluding the Weaver/ Richardson players Herold Goulon and Herita Ilunga took some beating.
-
Theo, Emile Sinclair and Lee Fowler are among the worst I've ever seen.
-
Mike Newell. I know hes not the worst player talent wise but can forgive lack of talent, but not lack of effort
-
Pointer man
-
Carl Alford, Gary Williams are a couple who came to score for fun and failed miserably to live up to expectations
COYR
-
John McGinley. Absolutely shocking footballer & thats being kind!!
-
Denis Souza
-
Canadian lad think he was called paul James
-
Denis Souza
Winner!
-
Denis Souza
Christ how could I forget him.
-
Mike Newell. I know hes not the worst player talent wise but can forgive lack of talent, but not lack of effort
good shout - and making w**ker signs to the pop side was never going to win many popularity points !
-
Canadian lad think he was called paul James
He was a Canadian international (which I found hard to believe) although he was actually from Cardiff. Boy, he was awful.
Dennis Souza is another excellent shout.
-
Mirsad Bubalovic.
-
Gary Finlay, David Smith & Rod Thornley
-
John Sheridan
-
Can't recall the name but that keeper we had in between the sticks vs Brighton and hove Albion during the Richardson era during that game at BV.

That was David Smith.
-
John Ryan :chair: :coat:
-
When you think about it, there are lots to choose from. On balance I would probably go for those I thought were stealing a wage ( Newell, Sheridan, Ilunga) rather than those who just couldn't play very well.
-
Pick your Esdaille...Either qualifies :-)
-

Bloody useless
-
Dennis Souza was horrendous.. was he really Brazillian?
Lee Folwer was massively out of his depth too. One of Saunders bad signings. (Albeit, there wasnt many)
-
Dennis Souza, Terry Austin, Colin Miller...but the worst one has to be Billy Stubbs. An absolutely awful player who shouldn't have been allowed near a football pitch.

that had me in Tears
-
Dennis Souza was awful. There was Nic Priet ( apologies for the spelling). Huddersfield away subbed at HT i recall. Wanted the ground to open up for him he was so bad.
Some excellent names brought up in this one.
I remember many moons ago, we used to have the free transfer to Frickley page, for those who we didn't want to retain the following season. Any takers?
-
Di Piedi
Harry Worley
-
Has to be the only Brazilian who couldn't kick, pass or head a ball - Mr Souza! Although I'm sure some of those unpronounceable wallies we had during the experiment season hadn't kicked a ball in years and didn't give a flying f*ck!
:byebye:
-
Has to be Carl Swan for me.
-
Mike Newell. I know hes not the worst player talent wise but can forgive lack of talent, but not lack of effort
I will never forget the occasion when he had been previously booked at BV. Newell then committed another horrendous foul, the home crowd fully expecting the second yellow started chanting off off off. When the ref only gave him a lecture chorus of the referee is a ______ followed.
-
Some good shouts above.
Warren Peyton was pretty dreadful.
EDIT: Oh, and Dean Anton Williams. Half a game was enough to see how useless he was.
-
Adam Hughes for me.. Somehow forging a career in China at the minute on god knows how much
-
Has to be Carl Swan for me.
you fücking WHAT ????

-
John Sheridan
another good shout - every time he's re-appointed as Oldham manager (once every couple of months or so) I find myself muttering "w**ker" under my breath as a sort of Pavlovian response...
-
Some good shouts above.
Warren Peyton was pretty dreadful.
EDIT: Oh, and Dean Anton Williams. Half a game was enough to see how useless he was.
But harsh on Peyton, would say he was the definition of bang average (along with far too many others during those middling Wignall years) but the worst ever player?!
-
Not sure about worst but most disappointing for me is Darren Byfield.

Maybe I was a bit harsh but him and Alan Morgan were both utter shite as IMHO. Jimmy Kelly was a bang average Conference player and he was streets ahead of Peyton.

Rob Johnson claimed ATS as our eorst ever player....
He has not been great but far from our worst
http://www.fourfourtwo.com/features/your-clubs-worst-player-ever-voted-fans?page=0%2C7
-
Think that's a terrible choice, reflected by the fact that I don't think he's even been mentioned in this thread!
-

Blimey. Not even in the top 20.

He's isn't even a bad player, and would easily do well into the majority of League 2 teams right now. Mr Johnson obviously has a beef, in the same way the some fans had a beef with Mark Wilson.
-
Tomi Ameobi was pretty horrendous. Looking online it seems he only played once for us and I was (un)fortunate enough to see it. Pretty sure he came on as a sub against Wolves, ran around a bit and was somehow responsible for their winning goal?
Made even worse by the fact he was built up so much due to being Shola's younger brother.
-
Not sure why any fan would call out a player currently at the club, especially when there has been years of worse.
Would like it is ATS came back and made alot of people eat their words.
Similar with Curtis Main, we can all laugh and joke now, but whilst he was here, struggling with confidence certain fans should of got behind him, not on his back.
Seen recently with Andy Williams also.
Once a player has left the club, then we can tell tales of how bad he was. Not knock them whilst they're ours.
-
I do like Rob but ti suggest it isn't a coincidence that we're top whilst ATS is out injured is just silly.
-

I think that was tongue in cheek/trying to be funny rather than genuinely suggesting that. Still a nonsense pick, though.
-
Just had a read through the rest of them, a few other ex Rovers in there - Jordan Mutch for Palace, Paul Carden for Luton, Alan Morgan at Morecambe and perhaps surprisingly, Dave Jones at Hull (aside from Roberts & Jackson mentioned earlier). Poor old Bas Savage is so bad that he's the worst at 2 already and there's still a few more of his former clubs to come!
-
I have to be honest & say that the pool of shite players who could have been chosen as our worst ever is pretty large and since the 70's I've had the 'pleasure' of seeing most of them in the red & white shirt. However, to say that ATS is the worst ever is crazy. Alright, I get that he wouldn't have quite made the Brazil 1970 team but the worst Rovers player ever? I guess the guy who chose him never saw Justin Jackson, Carl Alford, Terry Austin, Billy Stubbs or any of the other huge mountains of shite that graced Belle Vue over the years?
-
Tommy Meagan
-
100% correct in my years of watching the Rovers since 1960 I would agree Tommy Meagan has been the worst by a metric mile.
-
Tommy Meagan
Remember him. He was dreadful, although I thought Dave Wignall, who was one of his contemporaries, was even worse.
-
My top 5
Terry Austin
James Meara
Tommy Meagan
Ian Clark
Mark Yates

Ian Clark- ginner haired kid?

I remember him scoring the winning goal in a cup final for us at Alwoodley.
All the sweeter for me as at was against Bradford City and a load of City workmates were there.

Yes that was him.

Michael Timlin
ATS (sorry)
Tomi Ameobi
-
Anybody that thinks ATS is one of our worst three players either hasn't watched us for long or not seen many games over the years.
-
Michael Timlin
ATS (sorry)
Tomi Ameobi
Ameobi is certainly a contender. Timlin has gone on to have a decent career but appeared to possess the heart of a caraway seed when he played for us. ATS is nowhere near.
Nic Priet made ATS look like Maldini.
-
Am I the only one who saw Robbie Blake?
-
He wasn't a bad player, but he was a bad signing.
-
From the proper players we've had, rather than the exploited no hopers that Weaver and Richardson abused, I never liked Brian Usher. Waste of space for me. Run like the wind - and fail to get even a slightly decent cross over. Time after time after time...... Exciting watching him run of course, but he was disappointment: guaranteed.
BobG
-
I certainly would not include Brian Usher in list of worst players there has been many, many more in front of him !
My top three would be -1-Mike Newall
2-Dennis Sousa and 3-Carl Alford
-
Yr probably right Walter. But he is definitely the most frustrating!
Cheers
Bob
-
Harry Worley,Mickey Stead,Esdaille Bros,that Mark Weaver Goalkeeper neighbour.Bad signings Andy Campbell,Don Goodman,Dino seremet,Darren Byfield,Di Peidi + Bruce Dyer.
-
There is a rich vein of lack of talent to choose from over the years but for me, herewith two stand-outs, both from the same era, one already mentioned:
Tracy Austin
Keith Parkinson
I think the John Ryan call might be a bit harsh: he might have been brilliant but Penney didn't bring him on till the end and then nobody would pass him the ball.
-
Anybody that thinks ATS is one of our worst three players either hasn't watched us for long or not seen many games over the years.
25 seasons. Season ticket holder.
All about opinions. I am not going to belittle your choices, perhaps you might consider same?
-
Etheridge...need I say anymore

Chris I'm not belittling your choice. I just think that there have been far far worse players even in the last 25 years. I've seen so many bad ones over nearly 60 years. Norman Corner anybody?
Ilunga, Kem Mcintosh in goal. They were woeful.
I think that sometimes we are disappointed because someone seems a good signing but it doesn't work out for them here. Others just seem poor from day one and never have a career as such.
ATS didn't have the skill of Sheridan or Newell but tried far harder for the team.
-
Bernie Gallagher.
-
Tommy Meagan
-
Bloody hell! Standa!!! How the hell are you? Where the hell are you?????
Cheers

Peter Heritage?

I cannot believe there are no mention of any of the players from 97/98 when most of them should never have set foot on the pitch at Belle Vue.
-
Either of the two central defenders that started that year .... Brookes and Findley
-

Love the video on this link 😀
-
And going off on a slight tangent, i see Crystal Palace's nomination is Jordan Mutch. Really ?!?!?
-
I cannot believe there are no mention of any of the players from 97/98 when most of them should never have set foot on the pitch at Belle Vue.
Yeah but it says "player", which is overselling them somewhat.
-

I always felt sorry for Darren Brookes. He was a nice lad but he was clearly out of his depth.
I remember that time he had to go in goal at Southport when Nev Southall got injured.
-
Guy Ipoua was poor for us but there is a big pool to choose from over the 30 odd years i been watching. You could probably make a full 11 from the 97/98 season with quite a few of the players only playing one half for us. Well if Ali Dah could fool Souness anyone could fool Richardson and Weaver into getting a game. As there is a keeper thread could never understand how Barry Richardson ever played when Warrington was fit.
-
ATS might not be technically the worst player to have played for us, but he was by far the least reliable player in the entire squad last season and I hope now that he's returning from injury we can ship him out. If he never plays again for Rovers it will be too soon.
However, in terms of our worst ever, conference era aside and I would probably go for Harry Worley.
