Title: French General election
Post by: Branton Red on April 09, 2022, 11:33:20 am
Looks a fait accompli that Macron will win another term

But mon Dieu! The combined Far Right (le Pen, Zemmour) and Far Left (Melenchon) are set for 48.3% of the popular vote in the first round this weekend https://www.theguardian.com/world/ng-interactive/2022/apr/01/french-election-polls-who-is-leading-the-race-to-be-the-next-president-of-france

There is a malaise afflicting the traditional parties of Government after perceived incompetence (Socialist polling at 2.1%) or perceived and actual corruption (Les Repubicains 8.8%) when last in office. You can see why the Tories and Labour are so dead set against Proportional Representation in this country.

In a case of deja vu Macron will surely win by taking advantage of the lack of other credible centrists.

How much more sensible to hold elections on the weekend rather than on a work-a-day Thursday btw. Vive la difference!

This is the exact reason that we should have proportional representation so that every vote counts and every voice is heard.

How many people would vote Green’s  or Liberal Democrat’s or any other minority party if they thought their vote would count.

Branson you’re right it will never happen. It would be like a turkey voting for Christmas

There are too many safe seats. If every vote counted the big two would need to really get their act together

It is interesting Phil.
The main points are not surprising to me though.

It is interesting phil and long overdue but while the 'all politicians are the same brigade' and others set the bar way higher for labour than what the tories are asked to achieve it will be an impossibility.
