I really hope he isn't thinking about packing up. He's still our best player.
-
Absolute f**king Legend!
-
I think it's more of a nudge to see if a new contract is put on the table.
-
I never want him to leave, and hope when his playing days are over he stays in a coaching role, leading to him eventually becoming the manager.
-
Anyone care to guess who the following is about?
“I’ve known players do that, get their coaching badges and before they know it, their performances dip and they’ve come out of playing before they were ready to."
-
The Wolves career of our current Manager ?
-
Please god no!!
-
He says he’s still brilliant physically, that just isn’t true is it. He doesn’t get around the pitch like he used to and he never lasts 90 minutes.
-
Forget age.
Who are consistent performers.
Butler
Coppinger
Houghton
Wright
He plays well consistently so deserves another deal on that basis. We have bugger all chance of going up this season, so next year is going to be at League One level which I am confident Copps can still be competitive and influential in once again.
Another one year deal is a logical decision.
-
Be a sad day when he does call time. Every time I see him play now I class it as an honour & a privilege to see him pull on the hoops.
Things have changed in our all our lives I imagine but Copps & Rovers has always been the common denominator.
-
Maybe he needs some encouragement to reach 1000 - an anthem for Copps?:
When I’m singing, well, you know I'm gonna be
I'm gonna be the man who’s singing loud for you
When I’m cheering, well, you know I'm gonna be
I'm gonna be the man who’s cheering on for you
And I would watch five hundred games
And I would watch five hundred more
Just to be the one who watched a thousand games
To cheer on when you score
Da lat da (Da lat da), da lat da (Da lat da)
Jamie Jamie Jamie Jamie Coppinger
Da lat da (Da lat da), da lat da (Da lat da)
Jamie Jamie Jamie Jamie Coppinger
-
Very good.
-
A thousand games, you'd be wheeling him out and stretchering him off for those last hundred appearances. He'd still be better than half the team though I'm sure!
-
He'd be better than Reece Wabara ever was.
-
Theo Robinson played with wheels for feet so anythings possible.
-

He does last ninety minutes , it is the manager who thinks he can't .
-
I think he will sign on for one more season and then call it a day. I doubt we will ever have another player like copps the way football is these days.
-
He was absolutely shagged when he came off last time - but that's the first time I've noticed him being that tired.
-

That's pretty much how I see it. Although he hints he might not be here much longer he doesn't seem to have any firm plans for the future so I doubt he'd turn down another year's contract.
Make it so, Fergie!
-
I think Saturday was a pivotal moment for Copps..That's the first time he signalled he had to come off because he was cooked. And if we are honest it wasn't a fast paced game...
I'm not so sure whether he will be here or not next season..I was hoping we would offer him a player/coach role so he could work with our youngsters as what better teacher could they have?
That interview doesn't give you confidence that he fancies trolling down the Motorway for 4 hrs a day for much longer though, and if he does go into coaching when he's finished it will be somewhere closer to home..
So that just leaves if he's worth a contract for playing only for 1 more year and taking sentiment out of it that a decision best left to the end of the season when we see how he is fitness and mentally wise. You could say he is worth keeping on even if he is on the bench for thirty minute cameo's next season but his contact offer would have to reflect that I think and he may not fancy it...
-
Taking sentiment out of it....yes he’s absolutely worth one more year.
-
Any player can have a day where he isn't at his physical best.
Maybe just off it due to having had a cold or something the week before can make a big difference.

It’s not just a day is it. It’s obvious he doesn’t get around the pitch as much as he used to.
-
Regardless of whether he gets around the pitch like he used to he is still one of our better players and we are definetly a better team with him in our side.
Be a very very sad day when he does hang the boots up.
-
Copps has been written off more times than Leeds Utds debt.
He will ( I hope ) be around for at least one more bash, provided Mrs C lets him.
-
Thought he lived and was happy in this area.
-
No he's lived in Guisborough in the Middlesbrough area for years
-

Guisborough is in the North Riding
-
Over the years I've had many favourites: Usher, Kitch, Miller, Elwiss, Snods (both), Mike Jeffrey, Greeny, Blundell, Afro, Stocky et al, but I have to say that Copps is an absolute legend - and the best of the best. Long may he reign.

still fair to say its in the Middlesbrough area; football supporters in the town follow Boro, as did Copps growing up I believe?
-
still got another season in him - LEGEND!

Sometimes it’s not the pace of the game but how much he’s kicked, elbowed, tripped etc. that takes a toll on him I reckon. He got some rough treatment by those w**kers last week.

well I never! lol

He could last at least one more year playing, then other options are available elsewhere whether it be non-league, coaching, being involved in youth football, etc.
If I were DF though, I wouldn't rush to offer a contract extension at the moment - lets see what things are like in 2/3 months from now as a lot can change in a short space of time.
It's still questionable whether we acted too soon by offering Marquis a three year extension.
-
He could last 1 or 2 years coming on in the last 30 minutes when we need experience to see the game out, but he travels 3-4 hours per day and trains and that takes Its toll on your body and with a young family why would you want to miss them grow up , it he still wants to play on and not travel loads of local sides would sign him up.
