If I'm not mistaken, today is only the 2nd time in 50 years that another club has headhunter our manager - the other one being Bremner to Leeds in 85.
That probably reflects how shit most of our managers have been...
-
Didn't Blunts headhunt SOD though?
-
Aye, as the old parable goes:
"O'Driscoll said no, O'Driscoll said no;
Sheffield's a shithole, O'Drsicoll said no."
Profound.

Stan Anderson

Laurie McMenemy Southampton or Grimsby or somewhere nice, or did we sack him its all a blur

Stan Anderson
Did n`t we sack him and Bremner was his replacement
-
No he went to Bolton or some Lancs club but by then we'd lost a few good players. We should have been promoted with most of that team. I think a lot of fans thought that him getting another offer was a blessing.
-
McMenemy was sacked.
I thought Anderson left us a good while before he joined Bolton. Might be wrong though.

McMenemy was sacked by Rovers. He then went to Grimsby and led them to the fourth division title.
-
You might be right BST. I wasn't too let down when he left.
-
Just come back to me. Anderson went to Bolton as No2 to Ian Greaves, then replaced him when Greaves was sacked. So I don't quite count that as a managerial headhunting. (It's MY thread and I'll make the kin rules thank you very much.)
-
Without looking - who was caretaker manager for a short spell before Bremner took over - people were singing his praises all over..
-
How did Ian Atkins leave? Only one from my lifetime I can't really remember going.

Just reading Terry Curran's book at the moment, says McMenemy was the worst manager he worked under - and he had quite a few did Terry.

Joe Kinnear?
-
Nope - but close

We bumped into Lawrie McMenemy in Sapporo Airport in 2002.
Andy Liney went up to him, as he'd met him years before.
Needless to say, Andy was furious when Lawrie didn't have a clue who he was.
And to be fair, we weren't even sure if Lawrie remembered managing us. He rambled on about Southampton until I commented that I only remembered him "assisting" Graham Taylor, badly!
I think he was looking for his marbles at the time (& probably didn't find them)!
-
I sort of avoided bumping into him in the hospitality lounge at the County Ground a good number of years ago now. He's effing huge!

Jonathan, Uncle Ken showed Atkins the door allegedly because he wouldn't move closer to Donny.
