A cheeky 251 miles from Pinner.
£130 return on the train.
Car it is !
-
If fans are not season ticket holders then they wont get hold of a ticket, as they wont reach open sale
-
I'm sure you'd get it cheaper once the advance tickets go on sale 12(ish)weeks in advance. For some reason Virgin release cheap ticket 24 weeks in advance for weekdays but only 12 for weekends. I'm doing the London Marathon on 23rd April and already booked my train back to Donny on the Monday for £14 but won't be able to buy one for the Saturday for another couple of weeks yet.
-
Check out Grand Central, they run direct from Kings Cross to Hartlepool. Usually have cheap advance tickets if you get in as soon as they are available.
-

That's a risk non-ST holders take. Can't complain when the other club doesn't have the capacity to accommodate as many as we would potentially take...
-
Do we think it will get to Members?
-
No.
-
I would doubt it..
-
Depends what's riding on it. I'd love to have everything wrapped up before the final game. Brentford was a wonderful experience, but I don't really want to live through it again.
-
There will be no atmosphere if they sell to just season ticket holders. Too many sit-down tourists on their first away game of the season.
Not to cry about it (although I am), this shafts over people like me and my family. People who've been season ticket holders for many consecutive years in the past but who have moved to membership. We'll end up giving far more money to the club than an average season ticket across the season and we go to more aay games but for this one we won't get a ticket.
-
Don't give up that easily Copps. ;)
Where there's a will, and all that.
Surely, when it gets nearer to the time, their Club may well want to 'cash-in' on the possible/probable hoard that will be wanting to descend on Hartlepool. All is not yet lost.
-
Might be an idea to create a priority above daytripper STH? Produce a ST and an away ticket from another game this season maybe?
EDIT: thinking about it this brings to mind the daft points scheme that some bigger clubs use.

I live in hope but not expectation.
I might ask Jeff Stelling to see if any of his family can buy me 2 x home end tickets.
-
Get on the Hartlepool database now. By a ticket for a match. And then when tickets go on sale for rovers buy one in the home end.

Stage one completed

Definitely a home end one this! Time to make use of my uni friends from Teesside to get me a ticket if they make it a post code thing for tickets!

It's the age old dilemma that Copps..This is my first year in 20 I haven't got a season ticket due to having my kids every other weekend...It's one of those that there isn't a answer too,the club is desperate for st money to plan a budget and have to offer incentives to secure them I can understand that, but I can also understand people who attend away matches regulary who don't have them feeling annoyed that they will miss out after they put the effort in all season...
That said I always take solace I was at Brentford...It will always be the holy grail of matches as far as I'm concerned...

look 12 week in advance for cheap tickets if not to Hartlepool then to York or Darlington and then and return from there which is I'm sure only about £12 and £6
-
Never know, depending on their home crowd, they may give us a section of the home end too.
-
I can see Hartlepool giving us quite a big allocation of tickets, why would they restrict the numbers if loads of our fans want to be at the game.
No club wants to turn away revenue.
On the subject of STH people only attending limited numbers of away games well there are many reasons why that happens.
I don't get to many away games because of work and family commitments but get to as many as time allows.
That may change next season after i have retired but if i had to produce an away ticket stub to be able to attend this game i could be snookered.
I haven't saved any so far and my only other away day before Hartlepool is likely to be Grimsby, as long as work doesn't prevent that.

Surely this was the same situation at Brentford and that didn't lack atmosphere?
-
I wasn't at Brentford, I was on a different continent. I can't comment on the atmosphere but don't forget half that stand is a terrace.
I was at Cheltenham though (2008) and that was dead.
-
The cheap train tickets won't be out yet, that's why cost was expensive

At the end of the day you chose to be a member rather than a season ticket holder so this is one of the consequences that you have to consider when making that choice. I too am now a member rather than a season ticket holder and try to get to away games when I can, but for one reason or another can't always make it and it does leave me a bit more vulnerable when it comes to big games like this one.
Hopefully they'll give us some higher allocation, it would make sense providing their season is done and dusted by then which I expect it will be.
EDIT: To note of those two games you've just mentioned there CiM, I was at Brentford and the atmosphere was incredible. However I missed out on a ticket to Cheltenham and was probably better off at home as I could go out in the garden and get the loss out of my system there and then. Funny how it works out!

The atmosphere at Cheltenham was different, but mainly because we were rubbish on the day. I was at Boston too, and that didn't suffer either.
-
The atmosphere vs Bournemouth (?) at Belle Vue at the end of the 1981 season was pretty good too...
-
I was at Boston also, again a terrace - the singers congregated in the middle and the noise spread.
As soon as our fans see a seat, they are the first to sit down and behave themselves.
-
Only if it's their allocated seat, mind. God forbid anybody else happen to be in the vicinity. ;)

The point you're making though is that ST holders have priority over tickets on reduced allocations, and that causes a lack of atmosphere. Quite clearly that isn't the case.

This was the first time in quite a few years I haven't had a season ticket and knew I would have little/no chance of getting a ticket for Hartlepool, but that's the risk you take. Good to know that now I haven't got one I'll make more of a contribution to a better atmosphere though :silly:
-
If they allocated us the terracing stand it would go on general sale. Our fans hate having to stand up
-
Some very inaccurate general comments being made about STH's
-
Will it still be such a big deal if we've had it sown up for a month ?
-
Lol IDM! Good side that day were Bournemouth too. But we won through a nice header from Nimmo and a goal from someone else I can't remember now... I had to walk home after that one too.

The way we are playing at the moment hartlepool away will be a dead ringer im expecting us to be given the trophy vs Exeter at home

Not a bad drinking area near the ground. Should be a good day, would hope they give us a few more on one of the sides.

Far too many on this thread thinking its all over & done!
The Fat Lady hasn't even entered the building - let alone sung!
Do I think we will get promotion? "Yes - things are building up nicely" but it only needs a few bad results, a "bad patch" & it's all changed. Only half of season gone!
Just be careful!
-
Agreed, to me there's a real danger we could actually get better and storm the league. Fergie is looking for that complete performance.
-
Quite hurt that I don't add to atmosphere because I have a season ticket
-
Quite perplexed you took a general observation as a personal insult.
Look, I'll offer an advance apology to everyone now. If, upon the starting whistle at the Hartlepool match, 90% of the away end don't turn around and sit-down I will wholeheartedly apologies to everyone.

Assuming:
1. I get a ticket
2. My lad gets a ticket
3. We sort the travel
Rest assured:
I will be standing up probably for much of the match
I also, apologise in advance

What if you're right in the middle on the front row with an old biddy behind you?

For those who were at Hartlepool in the season we won the JPT, I wonder whether Lawrence the local transvestite will making an appearance once again. Quite a character.

Lawrence is now Dead so no he wont be making a appearance.

And neither will CIM as he doesn't have a season ticket

Just a thought
Would it get too messy administratively if there were Season Tickets that a) carried the "perk" of priority away Tickets as of now AND B) Season Tickets that "give up the right" to priority Away Tickets for a slightly lesser price ?
There are many STH's I am sure that maybe never go away from Home or like me*** have cut the away trips down to a minimum and by having a choice as above the STH could opt for the B) option and thus free up more Tickets for the Fans who like me between 1968 and 1975 hardly miss a game away or at home.
This would help those who CANT lay out huge amounts for a Season Ticket get easier access to away tickets and help get the Tickets themselves on general sale quicker !
If this sytem was brought in I personally would waive my rights to the Away Ticket priority and then "risk" not getting a Ticket for a really BIG away game in the future as it seems fairer to let the mega fanatics who go away almost every game to get the opportunity to get a Ticket rather than me ***
*** It would not and does not mean I am less of a Fan - I just cant be bothered to trek hours as I used to do - and indeed if I could be teleported "in an instant" to Plymouth Newport or wherever I would not miss a game home or away !
-

Little off topic, but talking about characters. Appeared on my Facebook 6 years ago today.
Wolves away in the FA Cup, 4th Round Replay lost 5-0. Anyone remember that bloke who appeared in the away end with a sleeping bag sniffing poppers? Very odd behaviour.

Grimsby were allocated more

I seem to remember, back in the old Belle View days, that we give the entire side of the stand over to (I think it was) the Middlesbrough fans.
Hartlepool may be tempted to do something similar if there is the desire from away supporters.
-
I believe the club have already contacted Hartlepool.

I was there for that Boro game Alan.
They had been relegated and won our division easily.
They won that game 4-0.
I remember their fans singing "give us a goal, John O'Rourke".

-
Depending on the Boro game you are referring to.
Last game of 87 season was 2-0 home defeat. Everyone was on three sides of ground as Pop stand was closed. Just a few days before, the first bit of subsidence had struck and meant it had to be closed.
Could be another 4-0 game but that 87 encounter is all I recall. It was mayhem with pitch invasions at the end. I did end up with a Rovers number 9 top courtesy of Andy Rhodes as he ran off the pitch. ( had it on under his goalies top)

Amazingly 2 of us went to stay with a mate in London ages ago (35 years probably) and as he had no beds spare we had to buy Sleeping Bags
Time being tight we stopped off at Brentford Nylons (that dates it) and bought one each before heading for Loftus Road for a QPR v Wolves game. In the queue to get in the comments were hilarious - youve facking watched Rangers before - coming prepared ready for a good sleep etc
I am sure it ended 3-3 with Martin Patching scoring a screamer for Wolves - and that drove me to drink not drugs !
-
The 87 Game v Boro had a very low Rovers attendance due to the police making it all ticket just a couple of days before, in the days when all ticket games were extremely rare.
Fast forward to the end of this video for pitch invasion fun.

It was the 4-0 I remember.

I wonder if we will see a pitch invasion this year. We are always accommodating for visiting supporters who want to invade our pitch

How about an "away membership" scheme for ST holders, pay a little extra - say £10 for the season - to get first dibs on away tickets?
That could appear that the club would be taking extra cash off the keenest supporters, but that's not really what I mean, it is more a case of supply and demand?
-
Getting a season ticket is already marketed as one of main ways of first dibs on away/cup games
-

Hmm. Are you suggesting, as someone else on here already has, that the ST holders are not the keenest DRFC supporters and therefore shouldn't have priority on away tickets? Its a ludicrous argument, in my opinion, that those non-ST holding DRFC supporters are keener on away games than ST holders. If that's the case how do they demonstrate their commitment to DRFC, by not buying a ST?
The club used to operate an 'away fans' membership at a cost of about £10 which gave some priority, the take up for that was exceptionally poor and whilst 95% of all away games allocations can safely accommodate those DRFC who do want to travel then it doesn't have a place at the moment. Again the argument that ST holders don't attend away games in numbers but will snap up the tickets at Hartlepool is another generalisation that doesn't hold water. There will be significant demand for that game no doubt, but to suggest that ST holders shouldn't have priority is a nonsense. If a ST is meant to have value then this is one element that should, and will always, remain.

you must be as sad as me I remember that chant -- Aston villa were in the same division as rovers 2 years either side of that match ? so presumably they brought a lot as well as I think they only had one season in the division being champions (not checking my facts)
-

Remember my mate getting onto the Hartlepool pitch the last time we were there, 1-1 draw iirc. It's a little bit of a drop onto the pitch from the away end.

They had the away rover a few years ago, I did it on the season we went up from L1 to Championship, only really benefitted me for the Leeds and Cheltenham games, wasn't worth the money for what I paid. Might have been £30.
-
There's usually enough tickets for everyone. I can count the number of away sell outs we've had in the last 5 years on one hand.
-
Could be interesting this game if Hartlepool need a result to stay up. It could be that we are only given the 967 and no more. Not that I would do it myself, but Rovers fans in the home end?

No, you missed my point entirely.. I was answering the previous post which invited discussion. I was actually suggesting an away membership for ST holders, to give their existing priorities a little bit more for when the occasion demands.
I was not implying an away membership scheme for non-ST holders to override the priority that a ST holder has.You seem to have interpreted my post thus, which isn't what I meant, nor what I posted "How about an "away membership" scheme for ST holders" - where is the word "non-" in that???
It was just a thought on away membership, an option, which you have now explained has been tried unsuccessfully before.
-
IDM,
As I pointed out that there is an implicit 'away fan' membership that comes with purchasing a ST. It has been tried for non-ST holders but we dont have the demand to make it worthwhile. I'm sure that should we reach the higher echelons of the pyramid we will find the need to reintroduce a scheme that suits.
The points I was making were not addressed to you specifically but I was using your post to make my own observations based on something already posted by certain individuals. Apologies if I've misinterpreted what you said.
-
Thanks Martin :scarf:

As the number of season tickets decline and the club sell more and more memberships and tickets through other means the arguments presented in this thread begin to lose credibility. IN fact, they are already a few years behind the times. There's been a opening up of different ticket methods for the SS where the majority of the singer congregate.
Secondly, we're not talking about priority for the Hartlepool game are we, we're talking about an absolute chance to get a ticket or not. Non-season ticket holders have no absolute chance of getting a ticket directly due to the small number available. So what sense does it make to talk about 'priority' in these circumstances?
No where has anyone said ST holder don't deserve to be there. Some awful melodramatic posturing going on from people who can't see the different demographics and forsee how the atmosphere will be different.
-
How many season tickets were sold for the South stand this year CIM?
-
I have no idea, the long term pattern is decline though.
Don't get tangled up in arguments I haven't even made. ST holders deserve priority. Just know for every ST holder that goes (fairly) regularly to away games you're going to have at least one day tripper sat next to you At Hartlepool. And they will be sat.
Whether its right for the club to encourage memberships and cash turnstyles then effectively exclude those people from certain games is a debate for a different day.
-
Ultimately IMHO all are welcome, new or old, ST holders or not.
-
How do you know that someone will be sat down that's next to you? Rather sweeping statement!
The majority of people are sensible and will not try and sit in an area full of standers.
Also don't forget that not everyone can stand all of the game. Does their clapping a good move not add to the atmosphere.
-
It's very hard to clap and do a sudoku puzzle at the same time.
-
It's very hard to clap and do a sudoku puzzle at the same time.
What's wrong with Sudoku like?
-
I go in the south stand and sit, and I can't stand all the time nor can I sit all the time, and I sing and clap so why should I be penaliced because of it I go to every game home and away so why should I miss out for someone who dunt have a season ticket
-
There will be no atmosphere if they sell to just season ticket holders. Too many sit-down tourists on their first away game of the season.
Not to cry about it (although I am), this shafts over people like me and my family.
This smacks of sour grapes and is a bit of an insult to loyal season ticket holders who pledge their money upfront to the club regardless of how the forthcoming season will pan out.
I committed to my ST for this season before I knew we would be relegated! Having priority for away tickets seems a small but welcome benefit for my commitment to the club.
And I promise to sing at Hartlepool... some of us ST holders actually do that, believe it or not.
-
It's very hard to clap and do a sudoku puzzle at the same time.
..Which perhaps is equally as disrespectful as me criticising selfish fans for standing up in front of other fans and obscuring their view!
Come on you reds!

How will you find time for singing in-between all these pats on the back you're giving yourself? You must be flexible. Just not mentally flexible enough to see beyond your own blinkered viewpoint.

It's a very brave stance that. Standing up for the persecuted 90% of our fans who sit down home and away.
-
I've been singing my head off for almost 50 years as a Rovers fan, from when I first visited Belle Vue as a wide-eyed 10-year-old. I will keep on doing so for as long as I can, home (every game) and away (when I can, family duties permitting).
Sorry if that appears to be patting myself on the back, I didn't intend to.
-
f**ks sake man, you chose not to get a season ticket, just hope you can get yourself a ticket to Hartlepool or deal with the consequences of your decision which were pretty obvious when you made it.
-
I said in the first post I was moaning. I fully know it is my decision ... and I'll be in the home end if I can't get tickets for the away. Do you think I need some kind of reality check?
I don't really know why people are offended or shocked at the news the game is becoming sanitised though. Maybe no one really wants hear an alternative viewpoint on here? Unless we actually find a sensible solution the atmospheres are just going to keep getting worse.

Not committed enough to buy a Season Ticket, but bleating now that you don't enjoy the same benefits as those who did.
-
Those who don't buy a season ticket are not committed to the club? Right.
See, that's the kind of nonsense that gets perpetuated on here.

Correct ! ... and with that we have gone 105 posts (this will be 106) and we have come to the conclusion that it may be difficult for SOME Non Season Ticket Holders to get a Ticket for the last game ** at Hartlepool ...
... ** and that game may be decisive in some way in Rovers Season either seeing them crowned Champions or seeing them promoted or indeed seeing them make the Play offs
Its been a riveting read I have to say
-
If it sells out and you want to go, go in the home end and organise to congregate in a certain area of the ground. Easy.
-
... or "tap up" a "tame" Season Ticket holder who is willing to buy a Ticket and hand it to you at face value ?
-
I said in the first post I was moaning.
Of course the game is becoming sanitised, but attacking ST holders and blaming them for perpetuating it is incorrect and disrespectful.
It was the season ticket holders on here who firstly persuaded the club to incorporate cash gates on the South Stand and then persuaded them to incorporate an unreserved section before finally moving to make the whole South Stand unreserved seating. But what do we know!
-
It's very hard to clap and do a sudoku puzzle at the same time.
..Which perhaps is equally as disrespectful as me criticising selfish fans for standing up in front of other fans and obscuring their view!
Come on you reds!
It's a very brave stance that. Standing up for the persecuted 90% of our fans who sit down home and away.
Not committed enough to buy a Season Ticket, but bleating now that you don't enjoy the same benefits as those who did.
Sorry to wade in but I've seen him (I only know who he is because he won that kit competition thing but anyway) at most if not all of our home games this year and last.
So he's hardly not committed.
-
Those who don't buy a season ticket are not committed to the club? Right.
See, that's the kind of nonsense that gets perpetuated on here.
No it isn't. That's your take on it. I haven't had a season ticket since you were swimming around in your dad's ball sack. It doesn't make me or you a better supporter.

I think he's making the same point as you are Iberian.

I just don't see how it can work any other way? And folks who buy season tickets are committing themselves, financially at least, to the club, more so than those who don't. Of course there are 100 reasons why a dedicated fan, like myself, cannot attend all home games or chooses not to buy a season ticket, but I don't go after those that do just because I want a ticket for a game that is likely to sell out, ffs.
I also noticed you mentioned about fans at away games sitting down? This has been done to death on here, and certain people will never agree, but it's obvious most of those who choose to sit down at games are older fans, who were supporting this club before many of us on here were born! I'd also suggest they were standing and singing (probably better songs too!) for decades, just like the young uns today are, before they are now just unable to do so. I think they have earned their right to sit at matches.
Yes, younger fans tend to make more noise and improve the atmosphere, so if they want to do it in packed away ends, that are likely to sell out to STH's and "sitters", maybe they should consider buying a season ticket? Or is that too flaming obvious...
All rovers n all that... :scarf:
p.s. Or just buy a ticket in the home-end...

Can't wait for this fixture, sooooo glad I'm a season ticket holder, nobody in their right mind would miss this one.
I'll still make sure I wear a few layers cos they don't have a spring or summer up there & it can get chilly sat down for 90+ minutes.
Oh & I'll take my sodoku book with me just in case a bunch of pimply, burberry clad numpties decide to stand up in front of me to chant 'songs' incorporating the latest swear words they've learned & in which non of the lyrics are ever 'football related'. Why the ignoramus chimps don't stand at the back so that the more football educated amongst us can actually sit & evaluate the tactics being played out in front of us is beyond me.
-
There is a very high probability that they'll be nothing resting on this fixture, remember going to Mansfield at the end of season 80/81 having confirmed promotion at home to Bournemouth three days earlier, huge anti-climax.

I manage to get into Cheltenham, the year we went up through the play offs . It's amazing what tickets you can get hold of if it really is worth going.

This isn't childish and antagonistic at all.

Not sure there's any need for this thread whatsoever to be honest.
-
WUM
-
no it is just going over all that was put in the other Hartlepool thread
-
Roll on the build up to the next game, at least then we can get back to talking about important matters, not this re run of another thread. COYR

Remember it well, what a bore that game was. Wasn't it Russ Wilcox's debut that day, & another player, David Harle?

The opening post speaks for the majority of our fans at least.
Mk Dons away will be exciting you get a padded seat!

The padded seat was the only exciting thing about the last time we played there.
-
I needed a padded cell after the last time that I saw us there.
