Vijf is five, but I'd be damned if I know what the rest is. Artistic license or straight translation?

Do you speak some french, or does spanish or portuguese help?

Yes and yes, English etymology played a big part too!

Afraid not Drover. The meaning and rationale are good, but there is an older player who is a direct translation

Although Dutch is a Germanic langauge it does actually have quite a few words imported from French, often with spelling simplified - e.g. Nivo (niveau) and Kado (cadeau)

Fortune would be geluk or fortuin. A vijfling is a quin.

Gezond, Kraam, Kudde and Slim to go.

Only Kudde is recent.

The whole word gezond means healthy - it is the same as German gesund with gezondheid/gesundheit being said when someone sneezes. There is no man or fellow in there. I am looking for a synonym of healthy.

I think kudde may be related to the english word cud, as in chewing the cud.

Kudde = herd, i.e. Sam Hird.

Hadn't thought of Stock which would also have worked.

Gezond, Kraam and Slim all greats from the 1960's

Also correct TRB

Defensive midfielder Slim from the 1960's left.......

One of those words that is actually different in German and Dutch. Schlimm in German means bad, whereas slim in Dutch is nearly the opposite.

Bellen is another such word - meaning to ring or telephone in Dutch, but to bark like a dog in German
