Back four for tomorrow
« on February 15, 2010, 07:27:44 pm by Barmby Rover »
It seems we have a bit of a crisis with defenders all of a sudden. With so many matches coming close together there is no way that JOC can be risked and we have lost Martis and Shackell for the time being. Two weeks out is four matches missed now! The defeders that we normally had for back up are also injured, Webster and lockwood are both out long term. It is a good job we got the emergency loan. So who do we play at the back tonmorrow?

I would go for Sean McDaid, Ward, Hird and Chambers with Mustapha coming on for Sean if he is struggling, or would it be better the other way round? We really are down to bare bones. :(

Would agree with that as although Dumbaya was ok on Sat he doesn't really fill me with confidence for sum reason but hope i'm proved wrong

I just wonder how fit McDaid is. For me it speaks volumes that he wasn't on the bench on Saturday when our regular left back is out.

I wouldn't be surprised to see Wilson played as an emergency right back with Spicer or Shiels taking his place in midfield. As for the rest of the defence, Ward, Hird and Chambers with McDaid and Dumbuya providing cover from the bench.

Not wanting to turn this into a knocking Wilson post but if we have to play him at right back then god help us.
We saw how he struggled on Saturday when trying to get back to make a tackle and then giving away what should have been a penalty.
Even with his inexperience surely Dumbaya has to be a better bet.

I thought the whole point of the full back argument was that JOC is doubtful?

Described as 50/50. If that is the case I would rather that he is rested. If he plays half fit and then does more damage it could cost us more in the long run.

Martis has a hamstring strain. Funny that, he left hist loan spell after he did his hamstring at Watford. He comes back and the centre half curse strikes again.

Sounds like Shackell could be out for a 'few' weeks, whereas Martis could be back in for the weekend.

Also sounds like Roberts could have damaged a crutiate so could be long term.

I saw JOC limping on Saturday and he's rated 50/50.

I think the best we could do is

Chambers, Ward, Hird (JOC), McDaid

Dumbaya, did ok on Saturday, but he needs a wealth of experience around him to keep him in check, so I would go with Sean McDaid if JOC doesn't make it.

I think Hird would be a good choice tomorrow anyway to take care of Varney.

If JO'C is available, I'd go...

JO'C Ward Hird Chambers

If not, then McDaid for Jimmy.

play 4 1 4 1 - screening role like Fortune played at Sheff U / Newcastle.
Maybe Wilson could do this?
