Stereo MCs.

You can imagine the instructions from the touchline on move the ball and play the offside trap.

"To the left. And to the right.
Step it up, step it up, it's alright."

If it HAD to be between those two I'd go for McCall. Though I've not been too happy with the last two Scotsmen we've had in charge   :(
And yes I know he was born in England, but he's a Scottish international, so you get my drift.

He is Scottish to be fair, he was born in Leeds because his dad played for them at the time.

IIRC Stuart McCall was picked for England Under-21s at the same time as Ian Snodin and was on the bench for one game. He had decided that he wanted to play for Scotland so hoped he didn't get brought on. In those days it wasn't so easy to switch allegiance.

That's a debate between background and upbringing I suppose, it's probably personal preference. If both my parents were English but I was born whilst they lived in, say, China, for work. Would I be Chinese? I'd class myself as English.

As it is both my parents are from Doncaster. McCall's parents are Scottish, he grew up in Leeds but considers himself a Scotsman I can only presume, due to his international allegiance as a player and a coach. So in this instance I'd say he's Scottish!

My old man always said if a bear is born in a dog kennel it is not a dog! Not sure of the relevance here but still, never got to use the saying before!!

Totally irrelevant but must applaud the shoehorning in of random sayings.

I agree RA.

The nationality thing can be non-straightforward for some people. IMHO when there are real genuine choices then a person should have the complete freedom of choice and be respected for it. Unless there are genuine strong reasons (country no longer exists? persecution? ...) I think a person should then stay with that.

I was born in Wales with one Welsh and one English parent. I went to school in Doncaster. I went to University in England and West Germany. I now live in Northern Ireland, but the country I have lived in most of my life is The Netherlands. I was also briefly married to a Dutch woman and at that time had the theoretical option of taking Dutch nationality.

I decided in my school days that I was more Welsh than anything else and have proudly stayed with that. I am proud to have the tagline on here 'probably the only Plaid Cymru voting, Dutch speaking Doncaster Rovers fan living in County Down'. It is exactly who I am.

P.S. The Paid Cymru bit is of course totally theoretical - since I reached voting age I have never lived anywhere with a candidate..........

P.P.S Still McCall for me.

Mick McCarthy  is back on Radio Talksport as an expert analyser for the Russia v Uruguay game.
He said he had  been to a wedding in Yorkshire(Wakefield) and another place that he would not expand on, obviously he didn't want people  to know where and what for.

I didn’t want to prejudice the decision making process so consigned it to the recycle bin.

McRumour Mill, a wise precaution given the selection process is still ongoing.

RA,  Going going temporary off topic but you raise a valid question that I personally have. I am obviously English, but my wife is Filipino and our son was born in Bahrain and holds a Bahraini birth certificate. So what nationality is he?

To be honest, I've lost all interest now and almost all enthusiasm for the new season thanks to how the bd are drawing this out.
