He played today in the Scott Richo tournament and as u can imagine was asked numerous times about the DRFC managers job
His answer was simple, he’s Swindon Town Manager and has a great relationship with the chairman....it’s not down to him
To say is he interested in the DRFC Job it’s down to DRFC to say they are interested in him.....
Having said that based on how he spoke about where is at the minute i feel he will still be at STFC come the start of the season.
Ps He was class today, it’s brilliant to watch him close up, however Copps was the Legwnds winner of the Scott Richo tournament this year

Think it's to soon for wellens to manage us if indeed he ever wants to.
But good luck to him at Swindon
-
I think it’s highly unlikely that we would be making an approach for him, I don’t think he left on the best terms with the club the second time around.
I hope he does well at Swindon as I really enjoyed watching him as a player, especially that first spell. I’ll always remember him fondly for that.

Ruled himself out of the position

(I don't think he was in contention anyway)

Like McCann should have said.
-
Class from Wellens but only the stance of a man with respect for the club who took him on and it’s supporters.
-
Some very apt quotes in there:
"Wellens said: “I wanted loyalty off of some players towards the end of last season. And I think it’d be wrong of me not to show that loyalty back.
“I’m starting to build my own team now, which is difficult to get.
“It’d be wrong of me to walk away at the first opportunity. If I was asked ‘would I like to manage Doncaster Rovers?’ – yes, I would."
Happy to have him back one day if the stars align and he does well at Swindon. Always liked Richie to be honest.
-
Always had him down as a Roy Keane type figure. All full of passion and energy as a player and scant time for other players not as good or committed. Having to motivate sometimes quite crap players as a manager will be a challenge given his own very high standards. Not sure Keane had it in him to realise 95pc of players he would have to manage would be half the player he was.
-
A Wellens and Stocky combo, anyone?
:D
-
Whilst I don’t think he’d have been in contention anyway, that’s a great interview. Everything that we should have seen and heard from McCann this week.

Funny you should say that. A journalist has just said Roy Keanes position at Forest is in doubt as he wants to pursue management!
-
Thanks Richie for putting me and hopefully lots of other short sighted people out of their misery by ruling yourself out.
I’m sure that we will soon have numerous threads wanting other ex players but we will have to live with that. Once again thank you
-
Who would have thought it Wellens the diplomat.
If that is not a dig at GM I don't know what is.
-
Cliff Byrne still taking the reigns 😜

Just like Copps - quality individual.

Roy Keane has just left Notts Forest to go it alone . mmm

Next in line for the Hull job

No thanks, great player, poor man manager

Exactly
For all the people who were adamant we shouldn’t have heard anything from McCann during the week.
This is exactly what we were hoping for, once it didn’t come it was apparent he was off

Managers showing loyalty........ it will never catch on

Anyone else reading that as a come and get me?

Now, if McCann was half the man Richie Wellens obviously is, then we could have all backed him to the hilt.
Great player for us and part of that wonderful midfield. And a born winner!

Nope.

Wellens also said "if you get Flitcroft you're f##cked"
His words
-
Flitcroft couldn’t get Mansfield promoted with a big budget for that league. No way he will be the new manager.
-
Flitcroft would be a disaster.
-
Flitcroft would be a disaster.
Mate a work is a swindon season ticket holder and says the same about Flitcroft. Stay well away !!
-
I've seen every Swindon game since Wellens took charge in November. He had the January transfer window, brought in about 5 players, and Swindon were awful.
Swindon fans wouldnt be disappointed to lose him, they think he f##ked it up.
-
They were 16th when he took over and finished 13th so not sure what he’s f**ked up
-

They were expected to be top 7
I would call that under achieving. I think the above phrase is a bit harsh.
Would be an apt phrase for DF getting us relegated from 7th position on 3rd Jan.
Oh crikey i hope i haven’t opened a can of worms on that one.
Please don’t reply Dickos as i know what you think about DF.
Thanks.
-
They were 16th when he took over.
What people expected before the season started isn’t really relevent, notts county were expected to get promoted.
Not sure why you’re shoe horning fergie into this topic

I thought that initially.
-
I've been to Swindon. Half the population would send out a "come and get me" message just to get away from the place.

Maybe I didnt make it clear, but he brought in his own player in the transfer window, and they were still awful.
Swindon should have made the play offs,,but got turned over by average teams week in week out.
Lots more goals, but typically by the opposition. That is why Swindon fans feel he f**ked it up
-
Plus Wellens and Lee Power deserve each other.
-
Ah,
You don’t like Wellens, I get it now
-
He has said he isn't going for the job as he wants to show loyalty to Swindon and the players he wanted to keep at the club, the opposite of a certain someone
-
Difference is we haven't approached him directly and made it known we want him like Hull did. Maybe a different story if we did that. Fingers crossed we don't though think it's too soon for Wellens
-
Ah,
You don’t like Wellens, I get it now
That's absolute boll#x. If you read what I posted I said I've seen nearly every game since he took over and they have been terrible.
I dont have likes/dislikes or favourites unlike some.
-
You just said Wellens and power deserved each other.
If that was a jibe at me, I’ve supported every manager we’ve ever had while they’ve been in charge and been criticised for it.
-
I've been to Swindon. Half the population would send out a "come and get me" message just to get away from the place.
I got stuck in the Magic Roundabout and called Air/Sea Rescue to come and get me.
And then to leather the shite out of the idiot that designed it.
-
If that was a jibe at me, I’ve supported every manager we’ve ever had while they’ve been in charge and been criticised for it.
And some even after.
It was a fact Dicky,no jibe at you. Dont be so pre pubescent and touchy
-
If I lived in Iberia and travelled back to England every other week for a game f**k me I’d try and go somewhere better than Swindon 😉
