In future this sort of deadline should apply to all clubs and be fixed on a date before each season starts.

If you can't prove that you can complete the coming season, then you're out.

We can't have this circus happening again, not knowing whether fixtures are actually going ahead from one week to the next - especially as it unfairly affects clubs who play by the rules.
Reading your post Pliskin, I couldn’t help but think that is exactly the ‘conversation’ the EFL Committee Members should be having/should have had amongst themselves.

It's f**king ridiculous that this is being allowed to drag on and on. Should get your notice to be withdrawn the first league fixture you can't fulfill then if you can't sort your shit out before the deadline you get the boot. We managed, why can't they?

Latest statement from the administrator is not so optimistic.

Quote
Statement on behalf of Paul Appleton, Joint Administrator For Bolton Wanderers

At 5pm on Friday August 23, the completion of the sale of the football club and the hotel had been agreed by all parties and undertakings had been issued by all solicitors except those of Ken Anderson.
Devastatingly, on Saturday morning that deal collapsed. At this stage, there seems little point in apportioning blame because that makes no difference to the staff, players, management, supporters and the community who have once more seen their club taken back to the brink.

My team have spent the last 48 hours working around the clock, striving to get a deal back on track and trying to convince the parties still in conflict that the very fate of Bolton Wanderers depends on them finding a compromise.

The EFL have made their position clear by insisting on a 5pm deadline on Tuesday for a deal to be completed or give compelling reasons for an extension. They have also written to everybody concerned in the process to underline that sense of urgency.

On Sunday evening, there was some tentative dialogue but we are still some way from reaching a solution. Therefore, I am appealing to those parties whose position seems intractable to do everything to reach a compromise.

In just over 24 hours, the club will have its membership of the EFL revoked. Over and above that, the club is currently not in a position to carry on trading and, as such, the process of closing down the company will commence on Wednesday.

This will ultimately lead to its liquidation, the expulsion of the club from the EFL and the inevitable loss of over 150 jobs. More than that, it will devastate a community for whom the football club is a beacon of hope and expectation.

I reiterate, unless there is a change of position from any of the parties involved, the process of closing down the club and ultimately placing Bolton Wanderers into liquidation will begin this week.

Liquidation process begins on Wednesday if they can't get a sale done then.

It's pathetic that it's come to this, sounds like everything was in place and then Anderson has pulled plug for God knows what reason.

And that adds further weight to why they cancelled our game,it would have lost them money, with such a low gate on a Tuesday and as the statement says, they are not in a position to continue trading...If that game was profitable the welfare issue wouldn't have come into it..Regardless I hope this statement makes the party's realise they need to compromise to get a deal done

Rich blokes playing chicken again. Saw the same thing with Dale at Bury. Pushing it right to the wire to get a better deal for himself, but one of these days that isn't going to work and a club will fold.

If Bolton do get thrown out what happens to the points the teams have taken off them do they get deducted from the points they have and also the goals scored?

I will believe it when I see it. Bury have had a stay of execution and I would not be surprised if the same happens to Bolton.
I would just like to see this season stabilise and get on with games so we all know where we really are, and both teams come out fighting next season. A shame it can't be in League Two for both of them.

At the moment poor old Bury volunteers are preparing their stadium for a match which may or may not go ahead, and may or may not be expunged if it is played. What a mess.

Crazy that the plug wasn’t pulled at the weekend to be honest.
Too many deadlines already been extended and then it was decided that midnight Friday was the limit.
Deal allegedly agreed so all is ok but then deal off again on Saturday morning.
What next if the so called Tuesday deadline passes and liquidation commences on Wednesday?
It wouldn’t surprise me if there was another “hang on a minute” moment.

They're both a shambles who should never have been allowed to complete this season

They might not, but shutting down football clubs is the last thing we should be thinking of.

Of course it is, but it's hardly fair on the clubs that do have their house in order that they've been allowed to make a t**t of the competition.

They must prove they can complete the season if not why are we risking our players getting injured when the result could be wiped from this season. EFL are weak and ineffective they should suspend both clubs for this season wipe results and set them off in League 2 next season. 2 teams to be relegated. Sick of reading do you want to be Bury or Bolton the answer is no but their situation as been brought by themselves and they are making a mockery of the league this season and well run clubs are not being helped by the EFL

The Bolton and Bury situations are an ongoing shambles.
Allowing things to continue as they are is unbelievable, players and staff not getting paid, games being cancelled and causing fixture pile ups later on, deadlines being constantly put back etc etc.

As much as I feel sorry for their fans (we have been there) maybe the time is right to go through with the liquidation threats.

It might just hammer home the point that clubs can’t live beyond their means and that the EFL should take more care when allowing takeovers of clubs.

There are dozens of cases of clubs almost going out of business and getting away with it by the skin of their teeth.
