Wigan Issues

Right you crazy cats. What's the score re getting there.

I assume those 50mph's are still in place around Sth Leeds.

What's the best route?

What's the rough time of travel (how long)?

What's the best motorway, once you hit all the M's at Manchester?

What do we think to the rush hour traffic?

Any issues around Wigan?

Will it be mushrooms, fried onion rings?

We'll have to wait and see. I hope it's chips, it's chips.

But not at £2.50 a pop.

Spent many an afternoon on the 62 in both directions, with the kids holidays traffice shouldn't be too much of a problem unless there's an unforseen event which can't be legislated for.

Can't wait!

Traffic has been reasonable on the M62 over the last couple of weeks and when I headed over to Leeds last night whilst the 50mph signs were up, there were no average speed camera's up and they have pretty much opened up the whole of the 4 lanes so I am thinking it may now just be the variable limits in place, which no doubt will be set to 50mph continually just to wind me up.

Still 50mph speed on m62 but a lot less smaller to what it has been,a few of the camaraderie are still up but signs do say not in use think it maybe mostly done heading west but still in use coming back

About 80 miles Town centre to Town centre. so hour and quarter - hour and half.

I work in Wigan and it's a horrid place to get in and out of at rush hour.

The A58 isn't the best road to take, you're better going up to the next junction at Horwich (where Bolton's stadium is), left off there and follow the signs into Wigan from there.  Follow the signs for Wigan Pier and Robin Park Arena.  I know it doesn't look very far once you get off the M61, but it's a real drag into town and can take well over half an hour for such a short distance.

As well as the usual M62 rush hour stuff you'll have to contend with the closures on the way home.  Going home on Friday from our game with Blackburn, the A1(S) was completely shut, A1(N) had one lane closed for grass cutting (AT NIGHT!) which caused tailbacks and the M62 was one lane out of four only in many places between Wakefield and Oldham.  On the plus side the "managed" speed and hard shoulder running has made a bit of a difference, but don't expect it to be quick.

Stadium is in a retail park similar to ours really,so usual burger king, pizza hut stuff

There s a Fayre and Square near ground but not sure how busy it gets?!

Lot of people park around Springfield Road where old ground was then 10 min walk, also couple of pubs here but no food.
Might be easier to get away after match as well.

recall When rovers played at Wigan years back.we went in back Of a luton van and ended up at the rugby ground as driver Made mistake Of heading for the floodlights which turned out to be the rugby league ground.

Got into the game and sat in the Wigan seats, and sat right next to us were four Chelsea players as in joey Jones, colin pates, Cant recall other two.

CFC were at Liverpool the next day, hence why they was at the Wigan v rovers game.

they took us onto thr Club bus at half time and gave us some scran and Cans.very very approachable chaps

If there is a closure which it seems there is, it depends where you live, for me it'll be M62/M18 but if you're the other side of Donny, M62/A19 would be your best bet I reckon.  Depends where the closures are, it varies, I'd check on your way home.  Other option could be A638 from Wakefield, but I find that road too slow.

Just queried it and it appears it shouldn't be too bad.  That seems to be the only one at the moment.

A1 (M) junction 36 (Warmsworth) to junction 37 (Marr), South Yorkshire: bridge works
The southbound carriageway will be closed from 14 to 21 August between 8pm and 6am. A signed diversion route will operate via the local road network.

The only other potential one I can see is near Oldham on the M62 but that's not committal really.

It's the school holidays, the M62 has been a breeze in rush hour for the most part - you should be fine.
