Title: Marc de Val
Post by: graingrover on June 08, 2020, 02:43:45 pm
Marc de Val sends his best wishes to all fans and expresses his gratitude to the  club for giving him the opportunity to get a taste of English football which ,he says ,is every footballer´s dream .He still follows us closely Via the internet .
He is playing in Ibiza for Peña and they are in the playoffs for promotion to the Spanish Second division which he explains would be an historic achievement for the small island club .
He played just 16 times for us as a midfielder and his opportunities were limited more by injury than by lack of determination on his part is my judgement of the lad  .

Remember the crunching tackle that effectively ended his Donny career in that “friendly”

Newcastle? The game that ruined Alcock too?

Friendly lol - could you imagine us putting in tackles like that on them there would have been uproar

I always thought he had something about him that barring the friendly foul he could have been a good signing for us

I certainly think of him as a ‘could have been’ for us. Was clear to see he had something but, as already mentioned, the injury and the timing of it effectively finished him before he got started.

Nacho Ybarra, Jos Van Nieustadt, Matthieu Baudry, Marc de Val. A roll call of nominally talented overseas players who never quite cut it at Rovers despite their talent.

Have to disagree re Baudry.  Mostly he was excellent - I think his time with us was spoiled by injury rather than performances.

Thought it was the Motherwell friendly? Could be wrong though

We are making the same point I think. He was often an excellent player but his body couldn’t hold up to the requisite demands so in the end he had to leave.

True. Passing from memory is a hell of a talent.

Might just be me but on the handful of occasions that I saw him I thought he looked very ordinary. Admittedly I don’t think we saw the best of him with his injuries, and it’s nice to see he still has time for us.
