Ref in Ligue one
« on January 14, 2018, 10:31:49 pm by Scooter »
Have you seen the ref in the Nantes v PSG game? He ran across a Nantes player who accidentally knocked him over. Ref then lashed out by kicking him and then gave him a second yellow and sent him off

Good job is wasn’t in our game - Fergie would probably have a heart attack

I didn't think I'd be saying this so soon after our game yesterday but this ref here is even worse than Haines! Beggars belief does that.

Refs with stupid egos are the worst kind.

Unfortunately some refs want to be man of the match. If you know what I mean. It’s all about them and not the players.

Surprised the player didn’t go down rolling over in agony, they usually do

I thought refs are part of the pitch? i.e. if you knock them over, it's like tripping over the turf?

Incredibly, after the sending off, he starts the game with a free kick to PSG in the place where the ref fell over.

He shouldn't ref again this season, stick him on an anger management course and retrain him. That's if he doesn't quit.

Why didn't the player lamp him? If you're going to get sent off for something, you may as well make sure it's worthwhile.

Difference between a one game ban and a lifetime ban.

Think the "make sure its worthwhile" quote was from a former player / manager but I can't remember who.

Joey Barton said he tried taking a man with him after he was sent off in the "Aguerooooo" game against City.

That caps it, he really did lose it there

Strictly speaking he should have shown himself a straight red for violent conduct. BUT think it through. He didn't have the view that we had where it's clear the player was watching the game and the ref suddenly veered across his path and last sec he put his hands out which made the contact. For the ref, he'd have felt a push, tumbling at speed, oldish guy hitting the ground - its a shock. Then add on the pressure, feeling a fool in front of the whole stadium, and fearing being made an ass of, so he did the only thing for someone with a fragile ego and without the nouse to check with the lino, and the players.

Only defence the referee has is that it was a pretty rubbish kick.

It's the sort of wimpy kick that Beckham got a straight red card for at France 98.

Straight red for the ref I think.
Will be interesting to see what happens now to the ref.

This is what the Nantes chairman had to say

Quote
Nantes chairman Waldemar Kita said Chapron should be banned for six months for the "scandalous" incident.

"It's a joke," Kita told French TV. "I received 20 text messages from all over the world telling me that this referee is a joke.

"If I talk too much, I will be summoned by an ethics commission. We have no right to say anything."

Well our FA are awash with money so they need to get their finger out and start spending some of it on the things which need addressing in the professional game.
That is having 40 + full time professional refs in the EFL On top of those in the premier league. Pay them a salary + match by match fee. Enough money to encourage people to take up refereeing as a full time career.
Create a structure, points based season by season so they can move up the league ladder. Let’s have what DF suggested in his welcome outburst. IT NEEDED SAYING WELL DONE. The “Shoot them” was unfortunate but said in jest. AT LEAST IT GOT THE MEDIA COVERAGE REQUIRED TO GET HEARD.
Will the FA do anything, again I am not holding my breath.
Most of them are living in a bygone world in an ivory tower.

Not having seen the resultant free kick I was wondering whether Alves had shot at goal.
He should have just passed the ball to the Nantes keeper to show the ref what he thought of the cock up of a decision.

The red card should of course be cancelled.

At least the ref has come out and said he was wrong and reacted badly, he's also asked for the second yellow card to be cancelled.

I bit more of that from referee's and they might get some sympathy

Agreed mate, at least he has acknowledged his mistake, something that it rare in the refereeing fraternity.

FA would have backed the ref up in England  :s
