I know its early but here are the key fixtures. The Top 10 teams
Carlisle United v Doncaster Rovers
Colchester United v Crawley Town
Crewe Alexandra v Wycombe Wanderers
Luton Town v Hartlepool United
Mansfield Town v Accrington Stanley
Notts County v Exeter City
Plymouth Argyle v Leyton Orient
Portsmouth v Blackpool
Stevenage v Cheltenham Town
Given that Plymouth are playing Leyton O, and could win by a bag load of goals, its essential we beat Carlisle which given their recent form we should do. Luton, Exeter, Portsmouth and Mansfield could all end in draws, which will give us a bigger points gap.
-
Iam going all in with my poker chips woooosshhh
3 > 1 win to rovers
-
Essential is a strong word.
We could lose by 10 goals and still be champions by the end of the season.
We've done the hard work to a point where we don't need to panic about the odd result here and there.
-
Tuesday is a huge game for me...Nick a win and we are really in the box seat and can stamp our authority over this league...Lose and whilst not disastrous it would mean 2 points out of 9 and give others reason to believe we are slipping...
-
Agree with that. Two winnable games drawn now a more difficult game away to another promotion contender. Despite Carlisle's loss of form I'm sure they will be trying to win the game to get their season back on track.
I suspect it will be a nervous game for both teams with neither brimming with confidence.
We need to earn the win and that means getting back to a high tempo and closing them down quickly. This time chances need to be taken after being not being ruthless enough in the last two.
The players need to show trey want it bad enough and not go through the motions thinking it will come in the next game..and the next..and the next.
We're getting to the business end of the season when teams have something to play for. We have to show we mean business.
-
We haven't played badly in the last two games though. We are still making chances and just need to take a few more.
-
The Morecombe game was a disappointment that we didn't take all the points, but that said they won easily on Saturday..Newport is difficult to say,a awful pitch but a team who were practically replaced to a man in January and are on a unbeaten run....
So it's nothing to be worried about but we do need to stamp our authority back on the league and make sure anybody else doesn't get a sniff...

Thought I was an optermist but I can't see Exeter, Portsmouth, Luton and Mansfield all drawing.
To be honest if two of them draw I will be surprised but very happy.
Only Plymouth are of any serious concern now. It would take a catostophic drop in form for us to blow it now. ITS NOT GOING TO HAPPEN :clapping:
-
Fixtures can be misleading though..The last 2 rounds of fixtures on paper, you would have thought we would have extended our lead and been away and gone..2 very winnable games for us and a few other teams playing each other
-
It should be noted that Newport are unbeaten in 5 and Morecambe are unbeaten in 6 games.
Both are having a good run and who is to say they won't "do an Exeter".
We will not win every "winnable game" will we?
I read somewhere on here that we should have won both games easily against "rubbish opponents".
No games can be thought of as just having to turn up and three points are guaranteed and i have no doubt that the team or the staff will be thinking that it is, even if some supporters are doing just that.
-
Which is why I put the post about Newport and Morecambes current form which is excellent for their league positions...Which is why Tuesday would be a massive win..Not just for us but for the rest of the teams psychology...
-
I believe Tuesday is a must win game, to put us back on winning ways and beating a fellow promotion contender, which would send out the message to other promotion contenders that we can beat sides around us, and we are No.1 in the League.
-
I don't think tomorrow is necessarily a must win game for us to win automatic promotion
I do think it might be a must win game if we want to win the title
-
Mathematically it's not a must win game but psychologically it could be a turning point.
A win would provide a big boost and sends a message. The same message delivered following the win v Portsmouth.
Certainly we have good reason to believe this team is made of stronger stuff than the team relegated from a 'safe' position last season. How's the time to show it!
-
I have just read Keith Curle's post match interview on their O S He certainly did not pull any punches about the performance, one interesting thing was that the Drug testing people were in the dressing room straight after the team went in for their debriefing...He was not happy at this. But made a pont also that the travelling fans noise may have had an influence on the game...Worth noting
-
We need to be ruthless in dispatching Carlisle with a heavy defeat. Their fans keep complaining that the LB position is a weakness which KC did not address during the transfer window, we need to send Copps marauding down the right to test the LB position.
From their forum: "The best result would be to have the game off due to ice so we can play them when we have a bloody left back!"
-
Need to send Blair down the right and let Copps play behind the stickers or wherever he would like to roam.

we have already had two crap results or odd as you say
-
They were NOT Crap results. We were unlucky against Morcambe, on another day we would have scored 4
The Newport result was a point won not 2 lost. Most other teams would have buckled under that physical assault.
It was 2,more points won towards our goal of promotion
Why are there still so many 'half empty glass' ""fans"" one here.
Get a grip we are TOP of the league.
-
Well if they wanted ice and the game off they'll be struggling. Already up here with !rs LR and its 5/6 degrees above, with a good forecast tomorrow.

Not far from the truth. Blackpool played a high tempo game and pressed the Carlisle defence, we need to do the same. Give 'em a double nightmare!
-
Interesting quote from the Carlisle forum, they think we will be easier to play against than Blackpool:
"Think Tuesday Jamie proctor back will help. Blackpool pressured high up the pitch today from the off. I remember when we played Derby earlier in the season and they did that. 2/3 quick passes and we nearly scored in the 1st 10 mins of that game and we earned respect and they didn't pressure as much. I think Tuesday we will play better, last time we played Doncaster they were happy for us to have the ball and both sides played attacking passing football."
We need to prove them wrong!

Already up here with mrs LR.....
ahh the old "let's go on a romantic trip to the lakes for valentines dear - oooh - look - you'd never guess where rovers are playing..."

You guys are lucky. We're still digging ourselves out after a massive snow yesterday :cold:

Interesting set of results this evening. We lost so did Plymouth (very unexpected), Luton quietly making progress in 4th, the one to watch, and one to beat on Saturday.
-
The last time Luton played a top side was Pompey in Jan. and were beaten 1-0.
-

Just what we didn't do. I wasn't there but from the commentary it sounds like we failed the test.
Ok, was a blow losing Butler before kick off but our big players should have had enough to get a result from that game.
Williams sounds shot of confidence (again) and he's had enough time to play through it, so I suspect DF will give an opportunity for May or McSheffrey to shuffle the pack.
We need them to give us something to shout about early in the game Saturday to help us be the 12th man!
-
I agree about shaking it up up front on Saturday.
