Rubbish kits
« on March 23, 2015, 09:29:36 pm by albie »
Entertaining piece in the Star about the crappest kits worn by local clubs;
RUBBISH KITS: As Sheffield United’s effort is blasted the ‘worst ever’, we take a look at fashion disasters from Blades, Owls, Millers, Rovers, Reds and Spireites - The Star

To be fair, none of them light a candle compared to Coventry's famous turd brown change strip from a few years ago.

That Rovers one they have picked is pretty naff though!

I liked that kit. The one I hated was circa 1986-7 which made us look like Rotherham. Though I think we thought it made us look like Arsenal.

The only old shirt I've got and wear is the East Ridings Sacks one. It was from 97 I think, the season I started going regularly.

What about the one in the Carl Alford era when we ditched the badge, adopted blue shorts and white socks!

The yellow away one from that season is for sale on eBay, £75 they want for it which seems like a lot.

Yes.  That was horrendous.  Looked like it had white epaulettes.  Pilkington Glass might have been the sponsor.

Pilkington Glass was 84 to 87, according to this;
Doncaster Rover - Historical Football Kits

I liked the 2 hoops version in 74/75, but that might be because of age at the time, memories etc.

Like with the football, we all see something different. One fans fashion crime is somebody else's definitive Rovers.

With my extensive knowledge of fashion.... Not.
The 74/5 kit was the best for me

It was the white sleeves I disliked, Rob. I didn't think we had those in 1984-86, but we did in 86-7. I thought the epaulettes (87-88) were a marginal improvement because we went to predominantly red sleeves.

Shame we abandoned the hoops straight after winning promotion with them in 83-4.

I gave away my "East Riding Sucks" shirts when the BBC did a shirt amnesty. I can picture some lad in Africa running around in the yellow one, presumably claiming it is actually a Brazil shirt!

Someone had one on for £75 a year or so since and as I had one for sale I chucked mine on for £55 I think it was and next time I looked at my E-mails it had "PayPal instant payment" £55 !

WTF is that I thought and sure enough it had been snapped up by a Donny Fan and I delivered it the next day !
I took it to Wembley (M1) just so I could display it all the way home to signify how low we had been and (if we had won) how high we had now got in contrast !

I agree that was naff as was the home kit too but I still reckon th worst kit ever in England had to be the Eddie Stobart Deck Chair cover Carlisle used to wear !

The 1990's era was one of the worst for kits, our was not too bad compared to some that one was one of my favourite's, never got it though.
I seem to remember an Everton salmon coloured one being one of the worst.

You are right, a year out.  I hated those epaulettes though.  They looked like we had a sheet of A4 folded over each shoulder.

The Hull tiger-stripe kit has to be up there with the worst of them.
