30 Years of hurt
« on April 30, 2013, 06:57:46 am by philsky »

My first match - 1968.

30 years of hurt.

Followed by totally unexpected success. And, the wagon keeps rolling.

Alex, who was with us on Saturday saw his first match in 2004.

We reckon thats 5 trophies in 9 seasons. Plus a cart load of stunning individual matches.

He has NO IDEA !

I have to agree. My first game was in 1976. I have certainly seem a lot more downs than up. For the new generation of fans (probably late teens to early 20's) they have seen a lot of success. That is what probably makes me more angry when the team are getting slated when things are going slightly bad. What also is disappointing is, a town the size of Doncaster and we have not been able to get the ground full or 3/4 full on a regular basis. We shouldn't still be losing a generation of fans to the Sheffield clubs and Leeds, who are on a level with us at best.

I have seen us earn 4 promotions and lift 7 trophies including those earned for titles/play-offs and even the Conference Cup. All in the span of 15 years supporting the club.

My lad is 10 in August. He was at his first game age 4 months, Scunny at home Boxing Day 2003. He's been to hundreds of games already. He must be a bit of a lucky charm!

We really need a great run in the FA Cup to increase our status. There will be tens of thousands in Donny that only watch the Premier league. We need to beat one of them live on TV to get their attention.

Philsky - I've been watching the Rovers since 1974 so nearly 40 years & I turned to my son, who is 10, as I looked down at the carnage on Griffin Park from the seats & said to him " You son have seen more success for the Rovers in 10 years than I have in the forty years I've been supporting them" & he said "It's ok Dad I would still support them even if they were rubbish". At that moment I knew that the Rovers had infected him for good!!
