Title: Not so fast Nicotine!
Post by: CusworthRovers on April 03, 2012, 03:13:42 pm
Personally, I think there's been far too much 'get rid of every player we have' posts on here.

If we do go down to L1, don't you think that many of our current players have the experience and calibre of L1 touched up with a generous sprinkling of higher quality Championship experience and ability.

In essence we could have a very strong L1 side that would be more than capable of a top 6 berth. I take on board what Silent Majority said (from his efforts behind the scenes), that we may not be in too bad a shape if we go down and we've been adjusting our knacker pouch accordingly already.

I mean,

........Sulli/Woods/..........

JOC/Muzzy........Bouhenna/Shelts/Sam/George/Locky..........Spurr/Radford/Chambo

Copps/Oster......Gilly/Barnes/Stock/Bax/Keegan...........Woods/Bennett

.........Brown/Hayter.........................

Whilst I don't include the Willie crowd, one or two may stay and add more depth/quality to the above. Whilst I also except that some may go and be allowed to go, it still leaves us with a nucleus that I believe will compete very well (as long as the nucleus is carefully selected). We may also add a few of our low level signings and loanee's to further boost this team.

For L1, if the right players are kept and above all we have the right tactics and TEAM SPIRIT, we can still make an impact

Bloody come on Rovers, you little tinkers

Hard to say without knowing the total ins and outs of every contract but I genuinely don't think we'd be able to afford all the players listed. I think some will be on a lot more than we reckon and  I still think the keeper needs to be addressed. Thats before we start down the \"gone stale\" route which I believe some players have.

I've no doubt thats on paper a top 6 L1 side but I believe \"on paper\" we should be higher up than we are so some players just aren't cutting it. If (IF IF IF IF) we go down it gives the opportunity to freshen everything up.

A key point there. With dwindling crowds and a smaller income generally, we're going to struggle to keep hold of players.

I think it'll be interesting to see what JR says in this week's DFP column on the matter.

Paul Goodwin said on Twitter that JR admits we need a miracle to stay up, but believes that \"the only way is up\" for the club. Hopefully he'll give us some further reassurances in addition to what we've heard from silent majority that the club has plans in place to stabilise itself.

We have a few who'd be stars in L1 still, just need to fill the gaps in with some young lower league players.

New GK/G.Woods

JO'C...Hird...Dugdale...Husband

Coppinger...Woods...Stock/O'Kane...Bennett

Brown...Kee

There are standard player contracts in operation in the football league. Part of those contracts have a section where wage rates and reductions are included dependent on the actual division you are in. In general I wouldn't worry too much about the players we want to keep and those that want to stay.

I see it from the other side - who's going to want to take on O'Connor/Woods/Stock on the money they are on here?

Ah ok, where you say \"included\", do you mean the clause is compulsory (therefore definintely in all contracts)? Or theres a standrad section where clubs may negotiate a relegation decrease (ie some may have them, some may not a la Newcastle)?

Tbh i don't want most of them to stay. Imo they have let themselves down, the fans and the club. I just hope Deano can get rid of the players who will not play for him.

Well they are meant to be compulsory, certainly if clubs want to meet the Uefa Fair Play policy, I'm just not sure if the League enforce it. It's a question we (the FSF) will be putting to them on Thursday at our meeting.

How many of the non-Willie players are out of contract in the Summer ?

I reckon its as much about who wants to stay as who we want to stay.

Far from clear cut.

We'll need JR to bring some of them round.

I could be wrong, but I've got a feeling from reading between the lines that Dick Watson will still help the club financially, despite his departure from the board of directors.

Obviously, the cost cutting will have to take place so that we're no longer reliant on him, but possibly not at the urgent rate it would have to if he had pulled the plug completely.

Cussy - You do realise that no-one under the age of 35 will have a clue what the thread title means!

I'd post something else deep and meaningful on topic at this point if I could think of anything worth saying!

\"One puff and they'll soon be in my grasp.\"

Said Willie Mackay to Elton John as he tried to persuade him to join the board at DRFC

I do hope that his true, I don't expect anything of Bramall but Dick has always seemed to help the club in any way he can. However the one thing that I find bizzare in all this (perhaps it is just me) is if he resigned from the Board due to health reasons and he still wanted to keep a healthy interest in the club, would it not be wiser to keep his children on the board to watch over his shares, after all he does own quite a lot of them. This is just a personal observation and in no way reflective of the views of the VSC Board or it's membership.

Perhaps there is a reasonably good explanation, I don't think there is a conspiracy theory regarding fall outs at board room level or JR's hands being tied, but this is something I cannot get my head round. However I do hope that Dick's health continues to improve...

Any chance you could just start saying you are speaking on behalf of the vsc rather than trot this out every time?!
