Last time in league one we started with Brown and Paynter upfront. This time it looks like it could be Robinson and Tyson. Very different approach. I would say we still need one more striker who offers something different to the pace we have now got.

Not saying he's ready at all but maybe Dickov sees that being Peterson?

I think its a good signing. Been a little unlucky with injuries if wikipedia is to be believed but none the less a good signing. Add Evina and Coppinger to that with hopeful news on Rob Jones and everything looks a little better.

Sorry Retdon but had you been old enough to have seen Brian Deane play for Rovers and then go on to be an England International (When we actually won games!) you would have thought he was dogshit as well.....................He was actually  :) but what do we know?

I am not saying he's dog shit, just that he's not up to this level. I've watched him for the youth, reserves and first team over the last few years and in my opinion he's no where near the standard for league football. He's a nice lad and I hope he proves me wrong but got a feeling he will be playing for someone like Gainsborough trinity next season

It's the eleventh hour as far as preseason is concerned, if the choice is getting him for a year or not getting him at all - I think we've seen their choice.

He's no mug, he knows that if he has a good season with us then a bigger club will come in for him when he's free in a years time.

...he's probably quite hurt that Barnsley haven't come in for him already though.

Wouldn't have thought so, but considering people have been complaining that you can't invoke a system, as introduced by the club, overnight, it seems there'll always be something to find issue with.
Title: Re: Nathan Tyson

I don't think people are just simply looking to criticise anything. People are being shot down, but if you look at the facts, Tyson hasn't registered double figures in a season for 9 years, and hasn't scored at all in the past two seasons.

Of course he'll be given a chance, but it's not exactly a signing that gets you off your seat, if we're being realistic about things. The guy is 32 and it seems like his best years are way behind him.

I took the "plan C" comment to be more about the length of contract rather than the player attached to the contract.  Given that some are looking for an excuse to complain at the slightest thing, I think it's not unlikely that others with have a differing of opinion. If that differing of opinion is what you call being "shot down" then I wonder how you cope with any form of disagreement!

An interesting signing, and one which could go either way. Certainly looks as if Dickov is looking to pace and speed this coming season, so Tyson, even at 32, could prove an handful at L1 level in a starter/sub impact role, wherein he rarely plays the full 90.

Particularly recall Tyson from a Rovers game almost eight years ago. As an exile, see only a handful of live games now, but was present at the emotional last game at BV in 2006. Many, many memories of that day, and one in particular sticks out.

Our opponents, Forest, dominated for long spells that December afternoon, and Tyson repeatedly skipped through our defence at will - granted he was just a snip of a boy at 24 then.

On one occasion he bore down on goal, and seemed certain to score until Ben Smith made an amazing save. Thought Smith would go on to bigger things, but recall he was vulnerable to long range shots!

Anyway, welcome to DRFC Nathan -- and as a Reading-born boy, and an ex Royals player, you owe us some good times. Over the years Reading FC have caused us so much pain -- I don't think any other team in the FL as such a bad record against any other team as Rovers do against Reading.

Your hometown club are truly a jinx, Nathan, so please help rip open those L1 defences apart for us this coming season!

Since when did I say I wouldn't support the bloke? I hope he scores 20 plus but as usual facts are not believed by the militant vsc, do you honestly think a promotion chasing team in ANY league would sign a striker with no goals in 34 games????
Title: Re: Nathan Tyson
Post by: rtid88 on July 28, 2014, 04:31:32 pm
Yeah but were not a promotion chasing team Raggytash, we are a team that imo will be looking to just secure their League 1 status and Tyson will definitely help with that!!

He will score over 10. Brown would of only got 10 maybe a few more. Just needs to keep fit. Alot of those app with no goals won't be starts. He's had long spells out injured as well. Lets give him a chance and on Sats showing i'm sure most fans will be supprised by him.

Tyson is on a conditional 2 year deal.  He gets the 2nd year based on appearances.  Prove he is fit to play, I guess.

Good deal all round.  He may not have a goal scoring knack but at least he had the nounce to bring a pen to training.  Next year we should be sponsored by Bic.

Actually, there's a point.  Maybe Dave Parker has the pen.

Parker....pen...gerrit.

If Main signs that will be 4 strikers that cant score great just like Rovers as usual

We had players who can score goals last season in Sharp and Macheda yet we still couldn't score for shit due to Dickov’s style. We finished as 2nd lowest scorers. Either way good record or bad record we won't score many.

Could he be the striker with most appearances against us without a goal? I'm just going from memory but I'm sure he's never scored against us. Must have played 10 times as well.

I couldn't agree more- its because the decent strikers have either been snapped up or are too greedy and we haven't got the dish :((

I might be wrong, but did he not score for Forest against us at Belle Vue?

Maybe, I can't remember it though.

Tyson looks beefier than he was in his younger days. Those who saw him on Sunday will have seen he uses his strength to get between man and ball and, putting it in modern terms, induces the fowl.

He's still blessed with a bit of pace and he could prove to have a bit of the Chris Brown in him.

When I say beefier, I don't mean fat either, as he does look toned up. By comparison he contributed more in the game than Robinson. Could be a very good signing.

Never mind the beef, what about the fowl is it chicken or Turkey  :chair:

Used to call him Grass Legs when I was at uni in Nottingham, very skinny, that said if he's half as quick as he was then he could do a job. I'm all for giving him a chance, welcome to Doncaster Not So Grass Legs!

Couldn't care less what they've done elsewhere. Brown had hardly scored for anyone when we signed him, he turned out ok, sharp had a terrible record at the club where we signed him from.
It's totally irrelevant what they have of haven't done elsewhere

We could go for players with excellent scoring records - Carl Alford or Justin Jackson anyone?

Just listened to his interview, very refreshing. Every other interview seems to be quite clichéd and samey.
