Barnsley, the next takeover target??
« on January 23, 2014, 10:34:58 pm by silent majority »
Strong rumours surfacing about Barnsley being in talks about takeovers whilst on their Irish trip this weekend. It's possibly just people putting 2 + 2 together and getting 22, but you never know.

While I wouldn't wish any harm on Barnsley, if it is you-know-who and the deal does go through won't it be interesting? They'll sure want to climb above TLOD.

Certain people are panicking already, hence the phone calls this late on a Thursday evening.

If they were only after the land as many people assumed, why would they want Barnsley in the middle of housing?

They'll probably invest 40 million and get them into the premier league. Then the knives will be out, they didn't have weapons of mass destruction after all....

Probably not though.

Barnsley FC has a massive car park surrounding two sides of the ground, plus the huge training facility at the back of the away end.  I suppose there could be development opportunity thee (in principle), especially as part of the front car park was sold off and 3 blocks of apartments were built there plus a row of town houses.  A precedent if ever there was one.

If they build overlooking flats near Oakwell, would the ones facing away from the pitch come at a premium price?

Barnsley have wanted to buy the row of terrace houses for years in order to redevelop the old stand but have been unable to do so. There is a lot of land surrounding Oakwell. I'm suprised that it wasn't first choice for them given that and the owners health problems.

Only half of the land belongs to the club though, and that's wrapped up in a trust with one share, the Cryne family trust.
