Players leaving in the window
« on January 18, 2018, 11:56:23 am by selby »
Fergie has  reported in the Free Press that we have been approached for one of our fringe players by another club.
Who do you think it will be? who would you like it to be?
My thinking is that it might be Mandeville or Wright, maybe Alcock, cannot see it being Beb Khemis( nobody has seen him play).
Mandeville fits the history of Fergie getting rid of the youngsters who were here before himself, Wright was playing well and could have impressed a manager who has noticed he is now sidelined.
Alcock is out of contract at the end of the season and could attract a division 2 club.
My tip Mandeville, if I was a manager I would not mind him or Wright, we have a history of letting decent players go cheap. What do you think?

If it is Joe Wright then whoever made that decision needs to be given their P45... Next Matt Mills IMHO if developed correctly... Selling him for peanuts would be idiotic

It's a player out of contract in the summer. My guess is Alcock.

James, I do not know like everyone else who it is, I just put out the names of the players not in the team at the moment(fringe players) who I think other teams might want, there are not that many.
Of the ones I have mentioned, the only one I would let go is Alcock.

Could it be Williams he does say that he has to talk with the other manager about where the player is at eg... Maybe his injury ?

who ever it is i'll have £5 each way on it being Mansfield - they promised signings in January way back in early December - Evans pulled out of resigning frecklington 10 minutes before the deal was to be done - Lincoln signed him pdq so Lincoln second favourites to be sniffing

If it is Williams which I doubt, that would free up a lot of wages & this should be put back into signing a recognised full back

You’d let Wright go? Crazy. He’s probably our most valuable player.

Technically yes but I think we have the option to extend.

Fergie would be losing the plot getting rid of our best young talent.

It’s 95% going to be Alcock.

The picture of Craig Alcock under the Free Press heading 'Fringe player could be set to leave' is a bit of a giveaway.

Williams is still injured and I don't know what the situation is with Etheridge. I'd say Alcock must be favourite. Out of contract at the end of the season and well down the pecking order.

B.B. I hope so for the lad himself, as he was playing very well before the terrible tackle in preseason against Newcastle which he has struggled to get over, and has not seemed to be the same player since.
Getting a regular game could be just what he needs to get back to the level he was at before his injury.

I've seen Yeovil mentioned. I don't know where that's come from though.

I wouldn’t class Wright as a fringe player, and I wouldn’t entertain selling him.

I wouldn't class anyone who is regularly on our bench as a fringe player, as they can be called into the 11 at any time.

Wright?  Not a chance unless its for decent money.

Selby I enjoy reading your posts & think you provide a good insight but if you genuinely wouldn't mind letting Wright go i'm glad you aren't the gaffer!

It'll be Alcock. Williams won't pass a fitness test & Alcock rarely features anymore. All the best!

Hang on a minute, where did Selby say he was happy to see Wright go?

I've had my debates with the man recently but in the opening post he states " if I was a manager I would not mind him or Wright" surely this statement means that, if Selby were a manager looking to sign unwanted Rovers players, he would like to sign Mandeville or Wright because they are decent players?

I mean, it's clearly Alcock anyway but I can't see in this thread where anyone has said they think Wright should be allowed to leave.

I think Selby’s point is that if he were manager of another club he’d be interested in Wright, not he’d be interested in getting rid of him.

Mind you, there’s no way you’d call him a fringe player either way - he’s firmly part of the first team picture.

I think Selby was referring to being the manager of a buying club, in respect of Wright, not as that of DRFC letting him go.
