Who we hoping for?
A nice u-turn for Copps would make my day!
-
I think it will be a 'senior pro' multi year deal that was mentioned
That or a couple of the younger ones signing on
-
Taylor

3 year deal is nice to see.
I find Jon frustrating at times but he does tend to pop up with a goal from time to time.
-
Good stuff. Senior pro, plenty of league experience, no shortage of effort and commitment from him. While he may be frustrating at times he's the sort of player we should be building around next season.
-

Great signing
-
Reasonably happy with this, he gets some criticism for his end product but when he’s not playing we miss his directness and he always gives us width. The length of the contract is surprising though as I’m not sure he’d be good enough for the Championship. On the other hand it’s reassuring that we seem to be learning lessons from previous short termism.
-
Definitely a positive.
I agree with the consensus - he can be frustrating and his end product can improve, but we’ve really missed his pace and energy when he’s been out. His running with and without the ball stretches teams and drags us higher up the pitch. It’s been all too obvious how much we’ve missed that lately.
A good commitment.
-
Hit and miss with end product (although always seems to be on the score sheet!) but we've absolutely missed his drive and determination.
He's a player who will just go and go all game to work hard for the team. A lot of the current squad could learn a lot from him.
Really pleased with this. We've been screaming out for a player to grab a game by the scruff of the neck and do something to spark some confidence. Taylor does that with his work rate.
-
Definitely been a big miss as the season has imploded. He doesn't always deliver but he is always an outlet and God how we have lacked that.
-
We have missed his work rate and the help he gives to the full back.
Needs to weigh in with a few more goals and assists but a good signing and for a good period
-
I like Taylor, he's a very good player, and the answer to my question may be that - he is as good as any at this level. So does/will the new manager want him?
-
A three year deal is a strange one. He’s got a great attitude by all accounts which is a positive, he’s not been great this season though.
No potential resale value either.
-
Get him up and running banging a few in and he will attain a price tag
-
The attitude is seemingly worth the investment alone, given the distinct lack of anything similar in the current squad.
Not saying he is the solution but was looking the other day at Paul Downing. Left us in summer of 2019 and since then has played only six times for Portsmouth in the league, last match being six months BEFORE the pandemic started. What a move that turned out to be for the guy. Would have him back.

Not at 29 he won’t.
-
Interesting that he is looking to move to the area. I assumed he would be living in the area already having played for Rotherham previously.

Is he not one of the Manchester lot coming over with Reece James and big Tom... I think he is big mates with Reece he wants to get in his pals ear and get him signed up as well

Probably only saw Rotherham before and thought sod that.

Wow 3 years. Not like us. Great business

Great business for Jon, not us.

Why not Gaz, everyone keeps saying we can’t rely on one year contracts

It will be part of the process of staggering deals so we don’t get into a situation where a lot of deals expire at once again
-
It’s great he’s signed, I like him.
But 3 years seems a bit mental considering the new manager might not want him!
Not trying to be negative but agree with Gaz, unbelievable work from his agent here.
-
3 years? Barmy! Not for an injury prone 29 year old of average quality with a new manager about to be appointed! (Assuming its not AB)
Dont get me wrong.....12 months maybe but never 3 years. Desperation
-

Well at least we’ve got one signing for next season .
-
Didn't he have a two year contract with an option of a extra year when he first signed for the club so in theory he's signed a two year deal
-
I have a feeling the 3 years is a statement by the club perhaps to show the new approach. If he stays fit I think he'll be worth another few years, and the lack of effort by the team since he got injured maybe highlights how important Tayls can be for us.
I thought he was better last season than this but we need players like him with the right attitude and the experience to go with it. So I'm happy to see him sign on.
-
The club can't win can they.
If he signed a 12 month deal the club would be hammered.
They show some ambition and tie one of our better players down and get slated.
I've been the boards biggest critic at times, especially lately. But I wouldn't knock this.

Mate, no way have you been the boards biggest critic.

Hardly getting “slated” are they

Pleased to see him sign.
As has been said by others he can be so frustrating at times. His decision making is not great on too many occasions but that is why he is in League 1 and not higher up the ladder.
Has blistering pace and a powerful shot and when on the few occasions he gets his delivery right or is on target with his shooting he is usually a match winner for us with his assists and goals.
If he could be more consistent he would be some player.
Am surprised he got another 3 year contract, very surprised in fact but if he can deliver to his capabilities then i will be very happy to see him in a Rovers shirt for another 3 years at least.

Depends where you look. There have been people slating them Mush.
Like I say, damned if they do. Damned if they don't.

It’s the making it up as they go along vibe that concerns me.
-
Agree he’s not going to have the sell on value a 2 year contract or even a year extension would have been fine in reality.
However what I’d say is we do need a core of players who are committed to DRFC for the long term. I see that as having a few whiteman types who we can sell on but also we’ll need players like Taylor who maybe aren’t going to get big offers but are still very good players at this level.
-
I don't think we should get too wound up about money the club is handling that side well, Taylor has bee a positive influence, a good signing.

Isn’t everybody making it up as they go along though? Life, and running a football club with your own hard earned, doesn’t come with a manual.

I agree, if this had been copps for example we'd be singing the clubs praises from the roof tops.
I'd rather it be Taylor than lokilo or madger for example whether we have a manager or not.
Question for me is that other than possibly some if the youth team players, which would also be good news in someway is that it?....... from the latest article I get the sense that no more are signing for now
