Be interesting to see how we actually line up - James could be playing wide left with Smith/Gomes/Richards playing centrally.

I hope Gomes is firing on all cylinders now, he will make a big difference up front.

That's about as orthodox as we're going to get from DM.

With Bostock on the bench and both Richards and Gomes starting, it seems fairly likely Bostock will come on to replace one of them on 60-65 mins. Fair chance Robertson will get some minutes too.

A good line up with a stronger bench and some recuperation in the legs, so everything to go for.

COYR.

Not really a weak link in the starting 11, but when Sims is 100%, somebody will have to make way. I simply can’t see Sims not being in the11, once he’s right, which means it’s got to be a Loanee to miss out altogether. I’ve got a feeling he’ll be in the team at Fleetwood.

Having defended Fej on more than a few occasions, his back to goal work is poor - just not his game

He isn’t that sort of striker that’s why. He is only playing up there because JJ and Bogle are out. Guaranteed when Bogle is fit and ready Fej will play on the left like when he scored his 2 goals against Swindon

Sucker punch that but I really don’t care Oxford very similar to Lincoln do play good football but if they get 5 yards from the area then throw yourself on the floor and win a free kick
Title: Re: TLOD V Oxford UTD
Post by: NickDRFC on February 06, 2021, 03:41:03 pm
Not just the pass from Smith - the turn that preceded it was brilliant, and to have the vision to play the ball first time was superb.

We’ve started poorly but I don’t think Oxford look as good as Lincoln did so hopefully the goal gives us some confidence and we grow into the game.

Darren's half time team talk will be crucial. Half the team have been on AM and half on FM that first half.
Title: Re: TLOD V Oxford UTD
Post by: NickDRFC on February 06, 2021, 03:45:06 pm
He saw it late but I think that was a mistake from Balcombe. You turn shots like that around the post, you don’t parry them back into the danger area. Sounds like he passed it straight to Oxford in the first place as well (wouldn’t know because ifollow are still incompetent at showing replays!)
Title: Re: TLOD V Oxford UTD
Post by: Barmby Rover on February 06, 2021, 03:47:15 pm
Get midfield firing and stop those attacks becoming dangerous will be the priority I would have thought.

Title: Re: TLOD V Oxford UTD

I would swop Madger and Taylor Richards, Richards needs to be deeper and on the ball more, he along with Smith can pick the passes
Title: Re: TLOD V Oxford UTD
Post by: drfchound on February 06, 2021, 03:52:58 pm
This is a good game.
I thought Gomes had done ok, a few dodgy touches but enough very good ones too.
T-R hasn’t had an impact YET but we all know he can turn something out of nothing so he is a threat.
Henry is very influential for Oxford and we can’t give him time on the ball.

And what a god awful referee - hasn't got a clue!  Stealing a wage.

We need to be better when we get the ball, Oxford, for all their possession don't look that good.

We look like we can hurt them when we start putting a bit of pressure on, just need to wake up a bit & cut the sloppy passes out.

Post by: pib on February 06, 2021, 03:55:08 pm
If there is one weakness to Balcombe’s game I’ve picked up on so far it’s his tendency to parry back into danger areas. Thankfully not last week from the two big saves he had to make, but thought he should’ve done better with that one today.

Can’t deny Oxford deserved the equaliser. We need a better performance second half.
Title: Re: TLOD V Oxford UTD
Post by: redandwhitearmy on February 06, 2021, 03:56:19 pm
Fej might aswell be sat in the stands, he’s offered absolutely nothing. He doesn’t hold the ball up well enough for me. Hopefully that’s something Bogle does a bit better.

Pretty poor overall but we are still well in it, worth remembering that these are one of the better teams in the division and it’s showing today. At times they’ve completely dictated play.   A point in this wouldn’t be a disaster, three would be excellent.

All to play for in the second half.

Richards will have to act quickly if he wants to make an impact, he normally only gets 15 minutes in the second half.

This is utter cack , we are second best to everything, inviting them to dominate and we look bereft of ideas....
Yes we do get that occasional purple patch, but we are not ever going to consistently dominate...
John scares me to death, he is a big clumsy sod with small dashes of inspiration, Halliday can’t dfend for toffee, yet can get down the wing...centre backs look heavy , slow and easy to intimidate, midfield is chasing shadows at times, and the punts up top are at times aimless, and occasionally lucky to get to the man.....

We are not a consistently good footballing  team like Lincoln and Oxford, but we are getting results from playing this crap, so eh,oh...let’s dick around for another 45 and Nick an against the run of play goal to keep our promotion push going.....

Richards only gets 10 second half minutes rather than his usual 15-20 but he’s done a lot with them. Hopefully nothing serious.

First time we’ve seen a number 8 on for Rovers since Whiteman went to Preston, Robertson coming on for his debut.

What a result, what a run of form we are on!!

Much better second half and thought we was well in control until they got the second and then it was them who dictated play a bit more, as you would expect. Massive that we held on there though as it was last week and some results really did go for us today.

3 points made up on Hull, 2 points gained on Pompey and Posh obviously 3 gained on Oxford too who were running like a train before today.

We should be almost a shoe in for the play offs and we have a MASSIVE chance of automatics, still lots of football to be played mind!

We've scored the same number of goals and conceded the same too. Everything is level aside from the games played and the games lost columns.

I'm guessing they use head to head and Hull beat us at their place earlier in the season.

This is a good game.
I thought Gomes had done ok, a few dodgy touches but enough very good ones too.
T-R hasn’t had an impact YET but we all know he can turn something out of nothing so he is a threat.
Henry is very influential for Oxford and we can’t give him time on the ball.

Richards will have to act quickly if he wants to make an impact, he normally only gets 15 minutes in the second half.

Well, he did make an impact.
