Think it still has some way to go before it rivals the Scottish equivalent - currently named the Tunnock's Caramel Wafer Challenge Cup.

Whatever you say about the competition certain teams Portsmouth, Oxford, Lincoln City, Shrewsbury, and Rotherham have done well in this competition and have benefitted from the monetary rewards success has brought them allowing them better finances to afford better players for league campaigns giving them an advantage over ourselves and have invariably done well and built teams to do well in later seasons.
Some have doubled it up with success round about the same time in the FA cup Rochdale for instance at our expense to relay their pitch with the bounty they won.
It is what it is as a competition, but mainly the aim is to put much needed funds into lower league clubs pockets which it has to the teams that have approached it in the same competitive way they do every other game.
The problem I have with our approach in the past is that as a club on and off the field of play we have approached fixtures in cups especially this competition half heartedly with one arm behind our backs and have given the the above sides and others a financial advantage we can't make up, with the same names who take part every season discussing our budget as against other clubs in many cases being unwilling to support the club in this competition.
Well as far as budgets are concerned you can't have your penny and the bun.
