Brian Flynn at the club, centre-half player manager, haven't we been here before?

The football wasn't particularly pretty under Cusack though Standa....

4-0 away defeat  at Gillingham in thick fog .. at away end never saw anything just knew every roar was a goal for Gillingham. Rumour had it that Cusack got set on in the dressing room by Dougie  for slagging off his predecessor's (Bremner) rĂ©gime . Dougie moved on to Rotherham that season .

Cusack was a yes man, sold all the decent players we had at the time.

He certainly wasn't a centre-half! No, the centre-half in this case was Cusack. Even though the football we played under him was boring beyond belief, he did keep us up for two seasons, although eventually the lack of money to replace those he'd had to sell caught up with him.

He could head a ball, though, Bryan Flynn, as long as it wasn't too far above chest height.

The team that Cusack joined as a player under Bremner was a good side, no doubt about it, but the steady migration of talent over the following few years was typical Donny.

Cusack did more than just keep us up. He took us to our highest finish in a generation, despite having the guts ripped out if the team with the Snods, Harle, Russell and Buckley all leaving. And then he took us to a mid table position the following year despite further losing Jim Dobbin and Duggy the following year. And he also signed two of the finest players to have played for us in my lifetime - Neil Redfearn and Tommy Gaynor.

Not bad for someone whose reputation is cack.

Redfearn from Lincoln City weren't it?  On a par with Ian Snodin in my book.  And any manager who can get ten grand for Harlie can't be all bad.

Totally agree BST -- Cusack has an undeserved reputation. In reality, he did a great job on minimal resources. I'm a little bias though as I enjoyed the odd pint with him in Wadworth (he lived in Loversall), where he told me about this exciting signing coming up -- it was Tommy Gaynor, who is remembered for that wonderful solo goal against Rotherham.

That Gaynor goal was fantastic. Almost the length of the pitch.

As a youngster I'd never seen a footballer play with one arm in the air all the time till I watched Dave Cusak.

It was boring stuff though.

Harlie came back from Exeter for a second stint and the ten grand we got for him was from Leeds, no less.  Have always thought that Bremner did us a favour on that one.

Andy, without looking it up I'm struggling on the order a bit, but I reckon he played against us the night of the 6-1 against Exeter, under Bremner in the relegation season.  He later came back, Buckley joined (Mark Miller was promotion season right winger to start), then he left for Leeds at the same time more or less that Buckley and Glynn did.  I'm thinking Edlington White Star-Rovers-Exeter-Rovers-Leeds-Rovers?
