Guys,  I've just shifted a few to that "other place"

Can you all please ensure that's where manager threads are started. Some of the names being bandied about could be a bit sensitive,  especially where the managers are in current employment.

Just trying to do things properly and with due respect to some of those names.

Thanks

Rob

'Pep' is still there.

Does this mean we're ruling him out, or is it a double bluff?

I hope you have better luck than I had with the Polite Request, after I came in from work yesterday and saw all the threads, I gave up moving them

TBF alot of the content is from bookies odds that are in the public domain, but yeah it would make more sense.

Seems sensible to me but I would again like to raise my concerns about the level of requirement to access the other place. Real concerns that I feel could stop the whole thing being rendered pointless.

The most secure place would be the VSC Members only section... ;)

Is there any reasons why the thread on there has been frozen?

We can't speculate anywhere now haha let's hope this means what it looks like!

I'm trying to get some bloody work done here, thought I could relax for a couple of weeks but now I can't!

It's all a bit farsical I think. Forum posters can't break football league rules I'm sure. All seems a bit OTT. I can half understand if we don't want names of players being leaked but managers are different.

Doh! Stop speculating about the speculation... That of course doesn't exist. Nothing to see here, move along now.

Why are managers different?

You don't usually get multiple teams after an in work manager at the same time.

I had a long chat with somebody at Barnsley today, who went into the reasons for SO'D turning down the deal he was offered. Apparently he agreed a deal on Friday afternoon but somebody leaked the info and by Saturday it was on the BBS message board attracting criticism of him.

He made a call to the club and rejected the deal.

Hopefully things will settle down whilst we let JR & Co get on with the job. We know in football one wrong move could put people in very awkward positions.

What does annoy me is the lengths that the press/media will go to make a story. Would not even surprise me if they employ the old mobile phone tapping thing.

So far I think the club have handled this situation brilliantly. Let's hope someone doesn't interfere and spoil it for everyone.  I think it's fair to say some of our lovely members of the press and media have been registering on this forum and as usual putting 2 and 2 together.

I read in the Star today that a member of the press got in touch with one of the alleged candidates whilst he was on holiday with his family, and was completely taken aback with the speculation. It's just not right.

i am afraid that as we are in the digital online age where news travels very fast it is irrelevant what forum, semi-forum or hidden forum you use, all information in the public domain, irrespective of its sensitivity is out there.

how else do the bookies get their odds.

the days of "i know this but dont tell anyone else" are long gone.

its all available to search on "open source" so why bother trying to hide it.

try googling "doncaster next manager" for instance.

That doesn't mean we shouldn't take any precautions at all, see my post above.

What it means is people who are privy to sensitive information should keep quiet. And I'd include divulging the reasons for O'Driscoll turning Barnsley down in that.

The issue is this forum isn't "another" DRFC forum, it's the most popular DRFC forum, so although there maybe stuff going on twitter and other websites, journos and nosy parkers will look here first for info from people they will most likely think are "in the know".

So say an ex-prem manager's name gets mentioned on here by some numpty, saying he is JR's daugters, boyfriends uncle, and he knows for a fact said manager will get the job. Those nosy journos may start ringing said manager up, maybe even mention his name on the radio or print an article in the Free Press. And it just so happens, the real main candidate reads this, thinks "what the f*ck's going on here then?", and then turns to JR and wants more money because he thinks DRFC are talking to billy big b*llocks.

Yes it's hypothetic, but is it unreasonable? So to avoid all that, we simple hide these sorts of rumours in.... yes, you guessed it, the Rumour Mill!

Guys,  it's a simple request. At least if FLJs register we can monitor what they do on the site. That is impossible for a guest on the main Viking Chat forum.

And the locked thread,  I think that was me clicking the wrong button on my phone whilst sat in trap no 3 at work frantic moving threads. ;)

Oh, I dont know, how about register and camp on the site for a full 24 hours+ and never post?  The logs are quite revealing, as are the IP addresses of users registering in the last 48 hours and the companies they are registered to.

Hmmmm.  I can't remember the last time I logged off so I'm camped on here significantly longer than 24hrs, yet I rarely post.  And no, I'm not a FLG - just someone who is interested in our club and enjoys reading some of the posts on here.

Oh, and if I were a FLJ then you wouldn't be able to trace my ip address to any company as 'freelance' people are exactly that, freelance, they don't work for specific companies.

More than is posted on here is openly posted on twitter, facebook and many other forums.  I would suspect that any FLJ worth his salt would not only be looking at those places, they's be tapping up people closer to the club than posters on this forum.

At the end of the day this is a public forum and people will post what people will post.  Live with it, or make it a totally private forum.

Is it really a public forum, or one that is provided by fellow Rovers fans and open to guests ???

Think about it. Your obviously very intelligent.

Any site that openly allows anyone to access it is, by its very nature, public.  That is the whole ethic of the world wide web and why so many companies and organisations use it.  That there are certain 'private' forums is sadly against that concept and I would not wish to see this forum be restricted to anyone unless they are abusing the privileges it provides.

The minute one suppresses freedom of speech, one suppresses the whole point of the web.

Just my 2p.
