In Jr we trust
« on January 08, 2013, 09:04:05 pm by Norfolk N Chance »
In his 15 years he has got every appointment right perhaps except Wignall.

Snodin brothers what we needed to galvanize in the conference

Penny what was needed in the third tier

Sod what was needed in the higher leagues

Saunders to help build the club back up inc youth team following relegation

So I am sure there maybe a curve ball there but he will get it the next appointment right!

Gut feel is Mark Robins!

Perhaps more expectation back then I seem to remember some big money spends going wrong?

Can't quite remember, you might be right but there was definitely something going off at home for him iirc.

Wignall was terrible. Released player of the year two season running Lee Warren and top scorer Dino Maamria after he had been manager for about three months. Then insisted on playing Carl Alford in front of Ian Duerdan even though everyone could see this was ridiculous culminating in Duerdan scoring twice against us at Belle Vue whilst on loan from us. Terrible times. I actually stopped going for a bit during the Wignall years out of protest.

Not to forget getting out of conference is the hardest task Rovers have faced!

Wignall's wife was very ill, if I recall correctly

We had some bad luck with signings then. Both Alford and Justin Jackson scored for fun at other clubs, until they came to us.
Didn't we spend about 200k on Jackson when we were in the Conference? Jesus, makes my stomach churn!

Amazing how we spent that amount on someone like Jackson and yet picked up Copps for £30k.

I think it was 100k on Jackson but his wages were on an annual increase to finish at £120k in the third year of his contract

JR wasn't exactly complimentary about Justin Jackson in his autobiography if I remember right?

It was a ridiculous signing, he'd only ever had 2 seasons where hed scored more than 7 goals.

He only scored 4 or 5 for us in about 50 games

The signing of Justin Jackson was worth it for me purely because his first goal for us, a last minute equaliser away at Margate, made a very long trip to one of the most desolate and despondent places on earth worthwhile.

I posted this separately and I am new here so I apologize as I should have perhaps joined an existing post.  Anyway, I heard the curve ball might be an Italian manager.  Anyone hear anything about this?

And Wignall was convinced Baz Richardson was a better goalie than Andy Warrington.

No?

I understand they are considering an Italian manager but hesitate to mention his name as he is apparently being considered by another club.  Would love to know where drfc stands on him but I suppose there is no way to find out.

You could keep asking on here I suppose using a username that would make people think you're a journalist hoping one of us knows what you're on about. But that would be a bit obvious I suppose.

Some people are just made for the job, Arsene at Arsenal, Mancini at ManCity, Cristiano Doni for ...?

No worries.  I understand you're point but I am not trying to do that.  I am asking because I hope it is true but I understand how that might seem.  Definitely not a journalist.  Can't prove it obviously but I will stop asking and sit back to wait.

Haha, only messing, I see you're not a journalist (see how I did that). You could post the name on the other section, that's what it's for  ;)

Thanks.  Now you have me wondering whether my writing is too terrible to be a journalist!  Which is the other section?  Would love to get feedback.

It was just the "you're" rather than "your" that gave it away, but that could be a double bluff of course! I'm on about the Rumour Mill - you've asked the question in there so you may as well just go ahead and name who you have in mind. I can only really think of one Italian manager who may fit the bill but I'll leave that to you.

If Wignall had a fit Paul Barnes we may have better memories of his time as a manager. Didn't he break his toe in pre season?

I think the way we do our business with credibility and integrity says volumes about him!
