Even worse is the penalty just awarded to Portugal by VAR. What an absolute joke.

Why can't referees start handing out yellow cards for the playacting, diving cheats who fall down at the merest touch. I hate seeing it the cheating bas**rds, spoiling the game.

I think it's becoming clear that some sets of officials have been more adept at using the VAR system - both on the pitch and the actual VAR team - than others.

Yes, but after seeing the replay several times, how can a World Cup class referee see that as a penalty? How can ANYBODY see it that way?

Serious questions have to be asked about football officials following that.

Well that was kind of my point. There are clearly some officials at this tournament that haven't got a f**king clue and are seemingly using it for the sake of it, or just using it plain incorrectly.

You're totally right, and it's the same as without VAR. We have some officials down at Rovers who do alright or officiate well, then others who haven't got a clue. I imagine if Trevor Kettle had VAR at his disposal he'd still be useless.

Since-1969, you seem to be under the impression that "VAR" is an artificial intelligence machine or something making decisions instead of humans. It's not, it's just other referees adding more eyes to the game to help the on-pitch officials get things right. Human error is therefore still a component of the officiating as it always has been without VAR.

VAR is a tool to help referees with their jobs. It helps with offsides, diving, penalty decisions, sending offs, etc it's up to the refs to use it right though.

It just says to me that VAR needed far more trials and wider usage before it was introduced into the World Cup.

Having said that, the performance of the referee in the Portugal v Iran match was totally inadequate. There's something badly wrong if he gets to referee another game.

Actually, VAR is doing a great job at finding out who the crap refs are. Before, we never knew what view they had of anything so we didn't know what they were basing their decisions on and the got the benefit of the doubt. Now we know they're looking at exactly the same thing as the rest of us, so now we know which of them make shit decisions.

That Ref was shocking,you cant argue with that but for me once again it's them who are taking the main onslaught when it should be the players...The playacting especially from Portugal during this world cup has been frankly shocking..I'm sick and tired of it...Every game is recorded,they should review them then start dishing out some retrospective punishment for it,it's destroying our game imo...
