Rovers Video Archive - Help needed
« on August 12, 2020, 08:08:20 pm by hamiltonrover »
The biggest collection of DRFC video footage on the internet is available via the link below

http://awayonsaturday.blogspot.com/2020/04/doncaster-rovers-video-archive-2013.html

We’ve spent a bit of time recently updating it! but now we're stuck for footage and even the club doesn't have a lot of this material' - most clubs are in the same boat barring the odd one or two... if there is any footage, get in touch, upload to youtube, reply in the comments on the website archive, or drop me a private message. We can then share for the benefit of all.

These are the priority games we are keen to try and find as they’re either iconic wins or games that ex-players have asked for. Any gaps that can be plugged would be great though.

Tiverton (A) - 13/11/04
Boston (A) - 04/12/05
Port Vale (H) - 11/03/06
Cheltenham (A) - 14/10/06
Hartlepool (A) - 31/10/06
Brentford (A) - 05/12/06
Northampton (A) - 09/12/06
Cardiff (H) - 16/08/08
Forest (A) - 26/12/08
Brentford (A) - 19/01/10
Accrington (H) - 10/08/10

There is also a link to my personal Flickr site too which has scans of pretty much every Rovers programme back to 1950 and a fair bit before that too.

A treasure trove of Rovers history all available from one site!

Here’s that Forest game.

Not the greatest quality but will fill a gap

A remarkable archive! I've been enjoying re-living plenty of these games, thanks for taking the time to upload of all this footage - a beer is owed for all the hard work!

Over 90% of games I've attended are on there now. Hopefully you can get your hands on the rare remaining footage.

All of these videos are appearing just in time for Copps' last season... how about a compilation video with all his goals and assists once he eventually hangs up his boots* at the end of the season?

Is it possible to contact ITV? Surely all the goals will have been broadcast on The Championship back in the day, same with the BBC and the FA Cup highlights?

The hard work was done by the website owner who doesn’t post on here, I have just been helping out over the last month or so with one or two others to try and get as many games on as possible, I will pass your thoughts on, it would be some compilation though!!

I lay claim to the programme archive which is linked on the site, not nearly as exciting as the video clips admittedly!

Absolutely brilliant archive!! Thanks to you and your mate for putting that together.

A few years ago Kenny Senior collated some clips of the Rovers and shared them on here. Not sure if any of your missing games may be included with them?

Kenny Senior and the owner of this particular website are the same person, so they probably have it covered

Fantastic archive. I went straight to the 5-0 against Scunny (a different angle to the footage i had on VHS and extended highlights, my memory of the match is more of the footage than actually being there, I don't recall the ref denying them a couple of clear cut penalties in the first half) and Mark Hine's consolation goal (against Carlisle? Crewe?) that won YTV goal of the season in my 3rd ever Rovers game. Then via the Trophy win against Farnborough.

Me too. We were very rarely on the telly in the 70’s and 80’s though as I remember.

I remember the cameras being at Belle Vue for a couple of games against Barnsley in the late 70’s and for home games against Bradford and Portsmouth in around 81/82 but not much else.

I watched it the other day. I’m friends with John Ramsay who played for us that day. He sent me the link to remind me how good he was. How he never made it in league football I’ll never know. Wrong place at the wrong time.

September 1978 for the Barnsley game covered by YTV .

Martin Tyler was commentating at that time , the game ended 2-2 after Rovers took a two goal lead .

The only footage I've seen of this particular game on YouTube is our Ali Millar curling in a free kick at the Rossington End of Belle Vue that cut Rovers lead in half just before half time .

Part of a vintage Barnsley compilation called " Those Were The Days " .

I'd love to see the YTV highlights of the game myself but it doesn't look like they still exist unfortunately .

Fairly certain the lad who puts all the old Barnsley archive on his YouTube channel would have done so before now as he's done this for a good number of years .

Hopefully a rovers fan may have it , problem was video recorders were in their infancy back then and very few folk had them .

No problem mate , I love watching the footage from the 70's and around the period I was a kid .

Not necessarily my club but football in general , old grounds and players you remember growing up .

The 1970 FA cup final replay at Old Trafford between Leeds and Chelsea is an absolute gem .

Wasn’t game away at Grimsby in the late 70’s shown on Yorkshire TV, Sunday afternoon ? Grimsby were trying to win the league, we won 4-3 after being 3-1 down a Jack Lewis hat trick I think

Trying to get anything from the 70s and 80s will be a challenged, probably a case of relying on people having old VHS cassettes and recordings of Goals on Sunday etc

I have just come across the following which we will try and get on soon:

80/81 Doncaster 2-0 Bradford City
90/91 Rochdale 0-3 Donny (Chrichton 3 pen saves)
