Realistic finish?
« on February 03, 2016, 10:01:49 am by PopStander »
What can we aim for now?
Play-offs are obviously out of the question.
Maybe aim to finish above Barnsley and Scumthorpe? Or is that too much?

I have to say I thought the bookies were giving money away when they offered those long odds against a top half finish.

I guess it shows why you never meet a poor bookie!

PS. Realistically I would still expect us to finish somewhere between 10th and 13th. With my pessimistic head on I think we might have a nervous time of it come April.

They WERE giving money away if you laid off the bet when the odds against us finishing in the bottom half rose to 4/6 a few weeks ago.

Where we finish from here really depends on whether Stuckmann, Butler, Tyson and Grant come back fit and stay fit. If they do, we'll finish in the top half. If they don't, it's anyone's guess how far we could drop.

I think I am ... 5 quid at 5s for top half was a banker - but need the limpers back soon !

I have written off my quid at 150 for promo

Bluebell Wood could still gain via my Barnsley for promo bet

I could gain with Sam Winnall for top scorer to the tune of £45

I think I have blown my £5 on Lee Johnson for next BCFC Manager

Not bothered where we finish now as long as we stay up. My perfect end to the season would be to smash the Dingles and Scunny and stay up.

Happy just to stay up this season now, then allow Darren to clear the decks even further in the summer and then spend the budget on his own players.

I will be expecting Play Offs as minimum next season though. Anything less and I fear we are in for years of nothingness.  :scarf:

We were one point behind port vale last Tuesday night , they've won 2 games in a week and are now a point off the playoffs.
There's a long way to go yet

A realistic finish depends on what form we can pick up in the coming weeks and injured players returning.

We are too far behind the curve to get to the play offs I think - not impossible - but with one point out of the last 3 games this is getting much more unrealistic.

Therefore as long as we can be competing more and find some winning form, a top half finish is realistic but I think we'll be a fair way off the play offs.

For me the appointment of Darren Ferguson is the  turning point . It's the first time we have all the right people in the right places to build a championship squad that would ensure we get there and consolidate our position there .
In our first previous Championship campaign we did not have the financial clout we have now. JR was Chairman but didn't have the bullets and we had a chief exec( (Morris) who drove us all mad with his lack of professional acumen.
We now have a stable Board with resources , an excellent CEO and the best and most positive minded manager we have had for a long time ...  can't remember such a no nonsense positive thinker do'er since Bremner.  I am far far from despair !

Utterly dependent on injuries, but - unless something catastrophic happens (and my glass is always in need of topping up) - we're not going down and I'm quite excited to see what Fergie does with the squad in the summer.

Given when he started and what he had at his disposal, I always figured that 'Project Fun Time Fergie Time' would only really kick off next season.

You don't normally have trouble reading posts Monk. I assumed you could read my 10:35 post and I didn't think I'd need to expand on it for you.

L J Monk in "trying to wind up BST" shocker

Aim to finish as high as possable.

That should always be the aim; I think a top half finish would satisfy most Rovers.

Morning big lad.

Some mischievous types have previously speculated that we have a board for whom any position between 20th and 7th, inclusive, would be ideal. Above or below that and they feel the pinch.

I think the board want us promoted but also realise that it was a big, big ask if you're going to bring a new manager in and not throw huge amounts of cash around.

Reckon we'll see what the board and Fergie are made of in the summer. I'm just happy to not have to put up with a jittery ringer for the next few months.*

*Looks at table, gulps.

Final relegation place last season was 50 points.

We now have 36 points with 17 games left.

If we are to aim for 50 points this means we need 14 points from 17 games or 0.82 points per game.

So far even with Dickov Handicap we have accrued 36 points from 29 games or 1.2 points per game.

We'd have to crash and burn in man or Dickov did when he got us relegated from Championship in order to go down this season.

I honestly don't think we'll be anywhere near the bottom - I was only being an overly pessimist pillock.
