I went in 2008, when England didn't qualify for the Euros and we were there while that was on. I really enjoyed it, it has a reputation for being a holiday destination for older people but where we stayed near St Julian's was pretty lively. We rented a car while we were there and I'd recommend that, it's a really small island and you can drive round it in a day. The capital Valletta is a pretty impressive walled city (I think Gladiator was filmed there) and it's well worth a trip on the ferry over to Gozo, another great place.

Valetta is a wonderful place. Fascinating history. Standing on the walls overlooking the harbour, it's impossible not to think of two of the most crucial battles in Western history.

Then there's Ggantija on Gozo. Not much to look at till you realise it's twice the age of the Pyramids.

The bars and clubs were alreight an all.

The locally brewed 'Cisk' (pronounced Chisk) lager is spot on too.

We go every year.

Nightlife.... Paceville, Bugibba, Qawra
History.......Valettta and Mdina
Beaches......Golden Bay (Food at the Apple's Eye Cafe is good), Mellieha

Don't bother with taxis, buses are regular and cheap

Are every day things expensive,like drink,food,travel,drink,attractions,drink etc

Pretty similar to the UK in everything but you can't get decent bacon. Best local lager is Cisk, best beer is Hopleaf but you can get a lot of British and German beers as well. La Valette red and white wine isn't bad for the price (about 3 euros).

I was in Valletta when Trotta hit the crossbar.  I was listening online in a bar on 'The Gut' which my Grandad reliably informs me was the red light district during the War.  A beautiful city with a fantastic history (particularly if you have any interest in the Knights Templar or WWII). The book recommended by BobJimWilly above is a good read

There's a pub in Valletta called 'The Pub', where Oliver Reed popped  his clogs while on a bender during filming of Gladiator. Worth a visit in a morbid sort of way.

We went on our honeymoon to Malta. It was our first package holiday. We coun't believe how hot it was. I thought the heat was coming from the aeroplane.
I got prickly heat and our lass got sun stroke.
Great place though, Gozo especially beautiful.

Went for our honeymoon it was shit hated it had to go on excusions as nothing else to do went out at night once to try and find a nice resturant and found nothing apart from closed bars even the cinema was closed.

Tried the next day to find somewhere in daylight and found two dead cats on the path and mounds of rubbish bags at end of paths.

Gozo is nice place for a tour round and the glass works.

Best thing was seeing an a380 diverted in when we landed oh and we finally found an irish pub two days before leaving problem was we was the only two people in there plus the husband and wife owner

But i guess we cant all like the same things otherwise we would all be boring hope you have a better trip than us
