My daughter passed her test 2 weeks ago, a Ford Ka is one of the cheapest cars to insure for a new driver, it cost £1150 for a years insurance fully comp, the policy is in her name and I am a named driver, it makes it cheaper

Try calling One Call Insurance, and lay heavily on the Rovers supporter bit. You never know, they might add him to your insurance for a reasonable amount. Assuming you'd want to do that of course.

Im insured on my mums car (1.4 corsa) as a named driver for £1600 with tesco, you get clubcard points aswell. Also if i decide to get my own insurence with tesco in a few years and i havnt made a claim i get 50% discount, which isnt that bad.

unfortunately that same car for the poor lad will probably approach £2500.

50% off would still be shite if the original quote was £20000 ;) lol

Well, when I were a lad... everybody bought a banger for their first car and insured it Third party only, that way yer premium is peanuts (comparatively speaking) and you build up your NCD that way.

Of course, today's yoof all have to have new everything.

Has your son considered a sex change
if he uses the nhs for the change
the insurance should work out cheaper

Bang on that, my first car was a 1980 Citreon Visa, £400 3rd party F&T. Second car was a 1981 Ford Fiesta, £380 3rd party F&T. This was in 1994.

You know it! My first car was a X reg(1981?) Biege Austin Rusty Metro. Cost me £50 quid LESS than the bloody pram we bought for our then youngest sprog!

quinns prices have shot up and buying an old banger doesn't make hardly any difference.  Dannyrovers is my son... it has been a nightmare, I had to sell my car to get the corsa, to beable to insure him at all. It was £1600 for our daughter to go straight on her own insurance fully comp. Cheapest i could find for Dan was £2800 old or newish car.  Bloody nightmare

Some insurers are offering discounted rates for younger drivers if they can fit trackers and the like to cars that send signals if the cars driven after say 10.00pm some others fit them and its on a mileage/time of day basis I don't know which companys are doing it, but there was a feature on telly fairly recently it might be worth trying to find out a bit more
